黎明先生是当下“岭南画派”在香港的重要领军人物，此次在广东美术馆作一个较为全面的回顾性个展，嘱我写前言，深感荣幸!

　　回顾和研究黎明先生70年的从艺生涯，似乎可以勾勒出20世纪40年代后期“岭南画派”以来的一种发展轨迹和精神状态。当年，高剑父等先生扛起的“艺术革命”、“中西共冶”的艺术大旗，冲破了陈腐传统的种种阻力，而成为了“融合”和“革新”艺术潮流的先锋，也成为了“岭南画派”倍受瞩目的精神支柱;而当时代变得日新月異，“革命”也月異日新，成为与“激进”相近的“观念”;而“中西”和“融合”也都不是问题的问题，关键是要有令人信服的具体解决方案和方式，那么，“岭南画派”所秉承的精神和针对性的工作方式将面对新的问题、考验和挑战，这对於新一代又一代的“岭南画派”传人来讲，更是一个时代交给的大难题。

　　黎明先生具有坚忍不拔的精神和能力，从早期跟随高剑父先生始，他坚持以生活、以写生、以笔墨为追求和实践的重点，从具体的生活中冶炼出“情”，在生动的写生中锻炼出“型”，而在笔墨的修炼中提升为“艺”。他的艺术实践和成就一定程度上代表了当下的“岭南画派”。

　　“岭南画派”的历史意义和理论建构还有很多值得进一步研究和努力的地方，黎明先生这次的回顾性和研究性展览，无疑会为我们深入关注和探讨“岭南画派”在当下历史情境中的存在状态和建设意义提供重要的资料。

　　Mr. Lai Ming is a pioneer and icon of the current Lingnan School of Art in Hong Kong. It is my great honor to write this preface.

　　In the retrospect and study of the seventy years of Mr. Lai Ming’s art career, it is like depicting the development of Lingnan School of Art since the late 1940s. At that time,artists such as Gao Jianfu were commissioned to reform Art and to integrate Chinese and Western culture, had overcome oppositions of the trite traditions, and became the pioneers of the trend of integration and innovations as well as the renowned spiritual icons of Lingnan School of Art. As time goes by, revolution becomes same as radical. The key of the problem is not whether it is Chinese or Western or an integration of both. The key is to have convincing and specific resolutions and methodology. Thus, the spirit and the respective resolution that Lingnan School of Art consistently upholds is facing new problems and challenges. For the following generations of the followers of Lingnan School of Art, it is a big problem of the times.

　　Mr. Lai Ming is characterized by his perseverance and outstanding ability. Since he followed Mr. Gao Jianfu in an early age, he has insisted living his life by sketching and painting as his major pursuit, extracting emotion from actual life experience, refine forms from vivid sketching, as such art will sublime from disciplined practice of his painting. His arts and achievements in some way represent the current Lingnan School of Art.

　　There is still many researches to do in the historic significance of Lingnan School of Art and much room left for improvement in its theoretical constitution. The retrospective exhibition of Mr. Lai Ming’s works this time will undoubtedly serve as a significant source of our further research and explore of the existence and development of Lingnan School of Art under the prevailing circumstances.
