The True Releaser is Refined

Li Jinbao Senior Editor and reporter of Calligraphy Newspaper

Zhang Zhizhong's calligraphy debuts from the young, and has already made extraordinary achievements. He is organized and not short-tempered to do things. He is bold but cautious, which can be summarized by the word "precocious". From the time we knew each other, it is almost 20 years having passed by in a blink. Time passes so quickly that a brief moment seems to be competitive. How much sweat, giving, endeavor and suffering can only be fully experienced by personal experience. This year he has reached his middle age, but he still has an active mentality, knowing very well the world anecdotes and ancient and modern odd news. His true qualities of straightforward talking from him do not change, hardworking and industrious character does not change, intelligent and witty character does not change, and the dialect of Hunan Mandarin is still lovely. The prime of Zhang Zhizhong is having more and more personality like an old style scholar.
Talking about Zhang Zhizhong's personality, it is because he especially stresses everything, stress writing, stressing clothing, stressing eating, stressing staying in hotel and almost everything. Writing is eyes, and hands are high. Authentic Two Wang's veins, not stimulating but mellow, not pretending to be amazing but actually be worth looking. His every gesture and motion, and every rhythm are never repeated, not contracting with no dangling, controlling the wrist on center stroke, freely operating. Not be odd, not be tricky, not try to be brave and not fight, Zhang Zhizhong has his own composure and standard. In order to get a good copybook for calligraphy, he even spends huge sums of money to buy it. In order to see the authentic works of Wang Xizhi, he organizes a delegation with his counterparts to Japan to observe them. Zhang Zhizhong really has the pursuit and courage. He stresses brush, paper, mounting, and environment. In my point of view, this is because he holds in awe and veneration for calligraphy; he stresses the ancient customs with the sense of ritual. I only appreciate it, but also advocate it, striving for excellence towards art. As for the other life stress, there's nothing wrong, and even a lot of people like it, forming from the natural instincts. The key is that it is not artificial. All your money is earned hard from penny by penny, so it is understandable on how to consume it. In fact, it also indicates that he is a very fine man in his heart that he pursues all aspects of exquisite and beautiful things.
Zhizhong has established his interest and pursuit very early. He never pays attention to others except for Two Wang. He writes the copybooks and learns strokes on the left. He owns running script, running and cursive script and regular script, and also extensively learns Jijin, Han Dynasty Stele and Moya. He can change with fresh and efficient and able face to govern in a tactful and grace attitude. He is elegant, peaceful, interesting and memorable. Check the man's virtue and mind by tasting his calligraphy, upright and open-minded, what the imposing gentlemen are like. I think the best quality of Zhizhong's calligraphy is not its shape and its pen, but is its momentum. His calligraphy momentum has an infuriating tendency throughout it, filling the entire writing layout, which is rarely reached by other calligraphers. It is really rare. Watching his sprinkle, he is unruffled and has his rate degree, neither too fast not too slow, being just like himself. As time goes by, I think his calligraphy momentum will be broader and more mature.
As calligraphers in 1970s, the era endows us rich resources and conditions, which should be grateful for them. The vision and pattern of Zhang Zhizhong have crossed the geographical and age constraints. It should be happy and congratulated. So just stress to the end, love till the old. When we throw the vision and standard to the deeper and higher place in the history, when we strive to achieve self-transcendence, you will find few people around us.
July 23, 2013 is the Great Heat of Guisi year; Jinbao flicks sweat in stove-like Wuhan. And by this article blesses for Zhizhong to hold a successful calligraphy exhibition in South Korea.
