记得第一次听到曹辅銮的名字,是我大学二年级,当时只知道他是南京艺术学院从事色彩绘画研究的教授,在大学毕业时,我的一位同学考取了他的研究生,逐渐对他有了更多的了解。知道他不仅对水粉绘画色彩造诣甚高,而且是国内最早从事室内设计教育的老前辈,创办了“室内设计与装饰”全国第一本专业学术期刊,在我们室内设计学术教育界产生较大影响。从那时起,我对曹辅銮教授更添几分敬意。
I still remember when I heard about Cao Fuluan at the first time I was still a sophomore in college. At that moment I just knew that he was a professor who studied chromatic painting in Nanjing Art Institute. As I graduated from university, one of my classmates became his graduate student, and I came to know more about him step by step. I became aware of that he has gained a remarkable accomplishment in gouache painting colour, and he is the earliest forerunner in China in the indoor design education, and also he originates the first academic periodical, “Indoor Design and Ornament”, in China, which has brought quite extensive influence in the indoor design science education field. From then on, I became more respectful to professor Cao Fuluan
五年前,一次偶然的机会我在上海见到了曹教授,当时他已退休,定居上海。他应邀来参加我院设计专业研究生毕业论文答辩会,正好我也是答辩组成员,于是我们便交谈起来。他精力充沛、思路敏捷,在会上提出了许多对室内设计学科发展方向和设计思维培养的观点,特别是对设计市场学的见解,给以我许多启发,受益非浅。短暂的交流。我们一见如顾……。从此以后我有空常去他的居所请教,一同谈论艺术设计、生活。
Five years ago, I met professor Cao by accident in Shanghai, where he settled down after his retirement. At that time he agreed to present in the graduate student’s dissertation defense of the design major, and I was a member of the expert group too, so we started a communication with each other. He was full of vigor and agile in thinking. At the dissertation defense he had brought forward many viewpoints on developing direction of the indoor design science and design thought cultivation. The most special point was his understanding of the design marketing, which enlightened me greatly and I benefit a lot from it. Although the meeting was short, we talked to each other just like old friends… Since then, whenever I have spare time I would visit him at his home, ask for his instruction, and talk about art design and life.
在曹教授寓所中,最值得注意的是他的150多平米的作品陈列室。在这里精心陈列着他各个时期的代表性绘画作品,每一次进入他家总被那些富有艺术感染力的画面而吸引,细细品味,倍感亲切,读了他的画,不禁令人沉醉那甘醇与成熟的色彩里不忍离去。多看他的画一眼,便多一份迷恋,使自己沉浸在完美的艺术享受中。曹教授是绝对信仰“自然”的诚实和执著、不甘寂寞的艺术家。惟其绝对信仰“自然”,所以总是不辞辛苦地作实地写生。虽然他后期重要时间在研究室内设计方向和参与大量的社会学术活动,但一有机会便背起画箱走到大自然的怀抱中去,日晒风吹在所不顾……。他的一片虔诚之心,在许多作品中得到了验证。看到他各个时期的风景、静物和人物作品气度平和、清明爽朗、兼有外光派和印象派之长,不求形式的感官刺激,却蕴涵着怡然沁胸的气韵,正好符合东方人的欣赏习性。他不断强调若要把握到自然灵性,即使一草一木也必须深入体察、心领神会,对描写的“对象”才能互通心曲,获得艺术的才思并使之升华。
In Professor Cao’s house, the eyesight-catching view is his works showroom; it is more than one hundred and fifty square meters. Here displays his masterpiece painting of every period in his artistic life. Each time walking into his house, I will be attracted once more by the tremendous artistic enlightenment of those paintings, enjoying them in details while perceiving their nearness to my heart. Reading his painting, one would completely indulge in its fullness and thickness and mellowness,and linger there with a difficulty of tearing his eyes away from it. The more one appreciates the painting, the more he will cling to it and become totally immersed in a perfect artistic feast. Professor Cao is an absolute believer of honesty and persistence in “nature”, and an artist who will not bury his talents in reclusion. Just due to his belief of “nature”, he always manages to sketch on the spot regardless of the hardship and trouble. Although in his later career life, the indoor design and countless social and academic activities occupy the majority of his time, whenever he has time, he will shoulder up his paint box and plunge into the arms of the nature, totally neglecting the burning sun and the blowing wind… His devotional heart has been proved in many of his works. Viewing the scenery, still life, and characters in his painting of every stage, we can sense their gentleness of manner and their clearness and brightness, which combines the advantages of the Pleinairism School and the Impression School, pursuing not the sensory stimulation of form but the implication of charm in easiness and the permeation of one’s heart, which just fulfils the oriental taste of aesthetic standards appreciation. He constantly emphasizes that if one wanted to grasp the natural spirit, even it is just a single plant and a small grass, he should observe it penetratingly, and understand it tacitly. Only when one has a mutual communication with the description “object”, can he gain an artistic creativeness and make it sublimed.
看了他的作品,感到艺术家感情构成的意境是作品中最重要的,他应用写实手法,形真意涵,表达了画中宁静、含蓄的气质。画中色彩含蓄和谐、刻画细腻、用笔流畅、富有韵律、朴实清新。中国有句古话“话从心出”。曹教授已经在自己内心把感情和大自然融合起来了,并从心里画出对大自然的喜爱。
Viewing his works, one can perceive that the vital point of a work is the artistic conception coming from the artist’s deep affection. He adapts the representational style, entity of the painting is authentic and significance is contained, expressing a temperament of tranquility and implication. The colour is connotative and harmonious, description exquisite, brush-using mellifluent, and the painting rich in rhythm, simple and clear. There is an old saying in China “words usually come out of one’s heart”, Professor Cao has combined his inner heart emotion with the nature, and so his fondness of nature just flows out from his inner most heart.
我喜欢他的色彩、也喜欢他的构图,更喜欢他对艺术不懈进取的精神和乐观积极平和的生活态度。能在他的画集中写上几句甚为荣幸,也对自己的激励…
I like his colour, and also his composition of a painting, and even more of his go-ahead spirit in art and his life attitude of optimism and placidness. It a great honor for me to write down some words on his painting collection, which will stimulate me in the future…
