The works of Shidi are the example of the finished maturity of a creative process, that can be seen as the final deposit of the same idea of painting, as they are autonomous works, finished through an idea that determines their autonomy.
The work of Shidi, developed through a "cultured" process in recent years, has taken on the road of informal art through a comparison with her own history and through the unraveling of the rules strongly linked to her own traditions, which manifests more and more in her recent works.
There is therefore no doubt, no uncertainty, in unfolding her language in giving play to her own means, which is in my vision the sign of the greatness of an artist.
However, the evolution of her work, and her recent works have forced us to a dilemma of positioning her in the panorama of contemporary art, this confused world made of everything and of nothing, of genial experimentations at times but also, often, sterile and free.
Well, the emergence of artists like Shidi is the attempt of the vitality of an art made of ability not separated by the poetic one, of an art that departs from the interpretation of the past, an attempt that still ferries us toward new worlds all to explore. Therefore, she is among the most important protagonists of the new Chinese painting, as her work, qualitatively speaking, is among the high ranks of this new international artistic elite.
In her work, Shidi unfolds her themes and develops transnational poetics in a form of extremely recognizable and universal language that talks with different cultures and with a capacity to keep away from shakings or fears. It is comforting that she has been successful in her creation that she is sheltered from momentary critical winds.
It is this capacity of transnational dialogue that ensures her of the strength and certainty of a radiant future, and moreover guarantees her of important recognitions which set the landmark for a bright journey ahead.
Her capacities to dominate with ease the pictorial subject and her sense of the color, have made it a fact that she is among the interesting promises of the new Chinese painting, in a level to compete with all the great protagonists of the international informal artists. Whereas her language is strongly rooted to the traditional painting of her country, she has in fact, with a giant leap forward, divorced herself from a sort of localistic ghetto, projecting her toward examples of high international value, to which the work of Emilio Vedova, Sam Francis, Franz Kline, and also the extraordinary Joans Mitchell are somehow closely associated.
The exploration of Shidi, her poetics, her sign, as well as her work and partly the logic continuation of an interpretation elegantly filtered by the Chinese painting tradition, if they must be somewhat ranked, I believe, can be put in that rank between the American Action Painting and European Informal Art.
I don't know if a classification of masculine or female art exists, as it often happens so. But, as far as I am concerned, I believe that art exists in itself and the only possible division in art is "good or bad". Well, Shidi is the living testimony of this, in that her works do not belong to the "female" but are rather works without distinctions of sex, whose high quality makes it perfectly justifiable for us to put her works among the "good" paintings.
However, the already mature work of Shidi is still evolving, and apparently, she will have a lot to tell us and surely very much to surprise us, because her young age will allow her to continue her searches in the directions already undertaken, with the curiosities, the experimentations and the necessary dose of unconsciousness that are the rights of the young. Everything is comforting, and we are sure that the base from which her work takes off is there to testify that she is aware of the seriousness of her work.
Seeing the works of Shidi, we are inspired by their vitality, which is also the vitality of art, that enables us to hope for the future process of history, a process in which, I am sure, Shidi will become one of the protagonists.
