Wang Nengtao's recent creative activities have enabled his open life to acquire a certain artistic significance. He often holds get-togethers at home, and invites friends from many countries to be his guests. These activities have become a more and more important part of his life. It is more interesting that from this life style he has gradually realized a kind of new value in society, and the new value has begun to be appreciated and shared by his friends. By doing so, Wang Nengtao has created a "gathering art." In this art, the host and the guests participate in activities that need the sharing of happiness and value. Because of this characteristic, the habitual nature of art exhibitions is replaced by the richness required by the entire range of activities. In the "gathering art," we can see works of many different forms, such as behavior, acoustics, photography, and sculpture. These forms interact with and complement one another, and share the values that have been determined beforehand. Meanwhile, these forms are also independent of one another, and each reflects an irreplaceability in a certain value with its own form.
Artists are not merely creators of concrete art works, but also designers of entire exhibitions. As the designer of the exhibition, I have deeply realized the close ties between designers and creators in the process of envisioning and implementation. To certain extent, a designer can turn into a creator. Maybe this is an intrinsic characteristic of the "gathering art." It not only requires that the artists and designers build a relationship of role exchange, but also requires that the artists and the audience blend into the "gathering art." They are an indispensable and the most important part of the "gathering art." Their aim in participating in the "gathering" is not merely to appreciate art works, or to make acquaintances, but to build a relationship with art works, to feel the common interests and values from this relationship, and to share happiness in common values.
The theme of this "gathering art" is "The world is yours and ours as well." A great man once said this to show the hope he placed on young people. We borrow this sentence not only for that, but to show the similarity between China and the rest of the world, between the East and the West, between male and female, and between the aged and the young. In this exhibition, we do not stress differences and features, but give first priority to commonality.
Regarding the form of the exhibition, although this is an individual exhibition, it does not emphasize individual style, but encourages artists to adopt a multimedia approach. The exhibition itself will be an enlarged art work. The artists' explorations in multiple forms within a certain period of time will be regarded as an indispensable part of the enlarged art work. The exhibition is works; the exhibition is the extension of works; and the exhibition is the beginning of works. Here we can say, "gathering" is the aim; "gathering" is the development of mutual relationships; and "gathering" is the foundation on which people establish mutual relationships.
It is high time to embrace the world, and it is high time to shake off the shadow of over a century. This is the appeal of this individual exhibition.
"The world is yours as well as ours." The world belongs to every one of us.
