纽约大学市立学院非常荣幸和自豪地举办这次张安治教授的作品展。张安治教授是我校1983年度的客座艺术家，他来自北京，是一位著名的画家和艺术史学家。通过这次展览，我院师生可以从此次文化交流中获益，同时纽约哥伦比亚大区的人们也能通过这一珍贵的机会来欣赏毛笔画这一丰富的艺术形式。

　　市立学院已经从张教授的任教和艺术中获益良多，他所开设的中国画与书法课程不仅包括现场演示，而且还将他与其他人的珍贵作品与我们分享。作为我们的客座教授，他切实地推动了两国人民的相互了解，在中美文化间架起了沟通的桥梁。

　　市立学院是一所地处大都市的学术机构，我们为来自多民族的学生提供优质的教育，并通过我们的国际交流项目改善课程设置，利用具有新意的教学手段来提高学生对多样性文化遗产的认识。

　　我院的客座艺术家项目是本校与中国交流项目的一部分，这是一种创新，而且我相信这也是美国大学中首批此类项目，在此我和我的同事及学生对此感到骄傲，也期望该项目取得更大成果。

　　PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

　　The City College of the City University of New York is very pleased and proud to be presenting this major exhibition of the collected works of our 1983 CCNY Artist-in-Residence, Professor ZHANG ANZHI, the distinguished painter and art historian from Beijing, China. Through this exhibition, not only will our faculty and students benefit from this cultural exchange between our two peoples, but also the greater New York public will have a rare opportunity to appreciate the rich art form that is represented by brush stroke painting.

　　At City College we have already benefited immensely from the scholarship and artistry of Professor Zhang. His special course on Chinese painting and calligraphy features not only live demonstrations but also rare exhibits of works by him and others. As our exchange professor, Professor Zhang has effectively promoted mutual understanding between our two peoples and bridged the gap between our two cultures.

　　City College is an urban academic institution in a cosmopolitan city. We provide quality education to our multi-ethnic student body, and through our international exchanges enhance the curriculum offerings with innovative programming that enrich the mind and the awareness of the diverse cultural heritage.

　　The CCNY Artist-in-Residence program, as part of the CCNY-Chinese Exchange, is one such innovation, believed to be the first among the major universities. I join my colleagues and our students in expressing pride in and support for this program, and we all wish it continued success in the years ahead.

　　Finally, I want to take this opportunity personally to thank President Proshansky of the CUNY Graduate Center for so kindly providing the facilities for this exhibition and both the New York/Beijing Friendship City Committee and the Chinese Alumni Group of the CCNY Alumni Association for co-sponsorship of the exhibition.
