“MOON BAY”
The Moon River is a branch of the Tongzhou section of the Grand Canal in Beijing. It was given the beautiful name after a well-know resort village was built there. Traveling from my studio in Songzhuang Village to home, I used to go through the place frequently, Only a couple of years ago, it was still quite a filthy spectacle; the river was filled with mud, as garbage collectors, shelters occupied the banks.
Somehow, the former image of the place has kept coming to my mind. And I don’t think that “Moon River” is a name fitting the place after the cleaning up. So, I put onto the canvas the “Moon Bay” that has remained unchanged in my mind’s eye.
