陈心懋是属于“出道”很早的艺术家。他曾经是青年，但是，现在的他已经是中年人了。

　　“中年”对艺术家意味着什么?艺术家也会有美人迟暮的焦虑吗?也许会的。特别是这一代的艺术家，他们把“青春”充分地转化为最初的象征性资本，那不仅是明亮的眼睛和不知疲倦的身体，更是绘画艺术的无限可能性，是惆怅、愤怒、快乐，是“创世”的激情和突破的想象，是垄断“未来”的信心，也是年轻书生的自我迷恋与纸上谈兵。

　　然而，“中年”来临了，沙场秋点兵，不出征还等什么?中年人为人夫、为人父、为人师，他不仅爱自己，他还得学会爱别人;昔日的“未来”已经来了，并且正在成为过去;他知道绘画艺术世界并非自他而始，也不是没他就不行;他也许还惆怅、还愤怒、还快乐，还有激情和想象，以及信心，但他也尖锐地感受到在这一切之中横亘着坚硬的尺度：身体的尺度、 时间的尺度、艺术的尺度和对生命、生活的敬畏;他曾经陶醉于“无限”，而人是绝对有限的，他必须将某种可能性付诸实施……

　　在一种“青春”神话中，万物都如花盛开，又如花凋谢，永远不会结出果实，这非常美，但这不是真的。人的责任就是你总得留下点什么，以便让新来的人有借口发动新的“革命”，让“青春”的神话生生不息，灿烂若新。

　　陈心懋早已步入中年，他应该深谙这一切。我相信，艺术家的中年意味着成熟，甚至是真正的开始。毕竟，艺术面对生活和灵魂，处理浩瀚深微的人类经验，它需要关于人的广博知识，也需要经过长期充分训练的头脑和技艺。毫无疑问，陈心懋是当之无愧的。

　　那么，这本小小的画册也是纪念，为结束，为开始。

　　For Ending, For Beginning

　　Chen Xinmao is an artist who “Engaged in his profession”very early. He was once a youth, however now he has entered his middle-age.

　　What does“Middle-age”mean to artists?Do artists also have the anxiety as beauties always worry about getting old? Possibly. Especially the artists of this generation, they adequately transfer“Youth”into initial symbolic capitals, which are not only their bright eyes and untiring bodies, but also infinite possibility of paintings, disconsolate, angry, happy, the passion of“Creating the world”and innovative imagination, the confidence of monopolizing“Future”, and self-love and idle theorizing by young intellectuals.

　　However, “Middle-age” arrived. There is a saying“Muster troops in battle field in autumn”, so why not go on the expedition? A middle-aged man is a husband, a father and a tutor; loving himself, he must learn to love others as well; the“Future”in the past has arrived and is turning to be the past; he knows that the world of painting didn’t begin from him and will not die without him; perhaps he is still disconsolate, angry, happy, and still has passion, imagination and confidence, however he feels clearly the stiff scales in all these: the scale of body, time and art, and to revere life and existence; he was once intoxicated in“Infinite”, however human-beings are absolutely finite, so he must realize some possibility.

　　In a myth of “Youth”, everything exploded into full bloom and withered like flower, never bearing fruits. It is truly beautiful, but not true. The responsibility of human-beings is to leave something as an excuse for the new generation to launch new“Revolute”, to live the myth of“Youth”as splendid as new forever.

　　Chen Xinmao has already stepped into his middle age for a long time, thus should he know these entire well. I believe, the middle age of artist means maturity, even a true beginning. After all, art faces life and soul and deals with extensive, profound and subtle human experiences, which needs broad knowledge about people, and brain and skills that has been trained well for a long period of time. No doubt, Chen Xinmao does deserve.

　　Thus, this small album is commemorative, for ending, and for beginning.
