I got to know Hai Feng since we both teach in Henan University. He lived in the opposite dormitory. Seeing the room filled with painting shelves, I concluded that he must be a man of painting. Then, chatting with tea and smoking has become an essential part of our life. Even today I still cherish the scenes when we chatted in his painting studio, feeling free and easy, only with the perception of art and pursuit.

　　In the days when he painted “Fenglingdu Ferry”, we often sit and discussed together, from the details and style to the approach and mounting methods. During this time, the little studio was filled with paintings of Song Dynasty with impressive lines, colors and forms. In the creation and pursuit of Hai Feng, as Mr Cao Xinlin once said “ Putting realism in an illusive space, forming a contrast of realism and imaginary and connecting with culture. He has enough thought in realism and classicism, in East and West.” Hai Feng once told me: “ You are the witness of the whole process of the painting “Fenglingdu Ferry”. Indeed, it’s pleasant to stay with serious painter, without distractions and utilitarian thinking, working is one of the essences of painting.

　　From unknown to the public fame, his achievements are inseparable from his spirits of persistent pursuit, exquisition, sensitivity and adherence. The interpretation of the essence of Oriental painting makes him a painting people. Hai Feng often said that he was just a craftsman, but indeed, it is true, in the first few years, his wages are all transformed into pictures and pigment. Everyone has his own way and Hai Feng found it and persisted it. Now, the little studio with less than 20 square meters is changed to a spacious and bright one. More and more exhibitions are waiting for him and more and more people are moved by his paintings and enjoy happiness from them. For an artist, it is really a happy thing!
