The Garden of Forking Paths is the theme of the 5th edition of the Xun Xun series. The exhibition aims to investigate the different interpretations and representations of the garden. This group show presents both works by students and their mentor, including works of Kang Lei, a teacher from the Department of Oil Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts and her 16 graduate students. The theme of the exhibition is inspired by one of Kang Lei’s work, and it is a quote from the famous novel by Jorge Louis Borges, written in 1944. The garden represents a labyrinth of the future of art; rambling in the labyrinth, every turn and crossroad can be a new start, and leads towards new gardens.

The 16 young artists came from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. As they elaborate the theme in different artistic languages; they presented a cohesive concept in “booming”, as the garden is a paradise of lushness, fertilized with prosperous possibilities; the garden is also a symbolic representation for the thriving future of art. Via the exuberant passion and creativity in their artworks, these young artists are living their best lives in this Garden of Forking Paths.
