The sculpture "2012 London Polo" of Ms. Huang Jian, a famous Chinese sculptress, made its debut in Beijing Olympic Forest Park on April 9, 2012. This exhibition is themed on "promoting Sino-British friendship, upholding the Olympic Spirit, and carrying forward the polo culture". Present at the event were Jiang Xiaoyu, Vice President of Beijing Olympic City Development Association, Wu Weishan, Director of National City Sculpture Art Committee, Wang Daheng, Permanent Chairman of China Construction Culture and Art Association, Cao Chunsheng, Honorary President of China Sculpture Institute, Zhang Yuanduan, Director of Environment Art Committee under China Construction Culture and Art Association, and An Yuanyuan, Director of Literature and Art Section, Department of Arts, the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China.

As the opening ceremony of London Olympic Games draws near, Huang Jian has completed the creation of her large-scale group sculpture "2012 London Polo". Polo was an event of the 1908 London Olympics. The ancient polo first emerged in China, while the modern polo was born in England. In 2008, Huang Jian's masterpiece, the group sculpture of "Emperor Xuan Zong of Tang Dynasty and Yang Guifei Playing Polo", distinguished itself from other artworks collected among more than 2,000 famous sculptors and became the only permanent large-scale sculpture and an eye-catching installation in the Beijing Olympic Park. This time, Ms. Huang created a new surrealistic sculpture based on a polo match between two Chinese ancient polo fans and two British modern polo lovers gathering in the London Olympic Park. The connection of the two sculptures implies a time flow from 2008 to 2012, a historical continuity from the ancient time to the modern era, as well as the spatial change from Beijing to London. It also conveys the message of promoting Sino-British friendship, upholding the Olympic Spirit, and carrying forward the polo culture. This creation has lasted for more than four years, and expresses the artist's strong desire for a peaceful and friendly relationship between the two peoples.

With the support from Beijing Olympic City Development Association and local government of Chaoyang district, Beijing, Huang Jian paid a visit to London a few days ago. She exchanged views on the exhibition and residency of this sculpture in London with Sir Robin Wales, mayor of Newham, one of the major host boroughs of London Olympic Games. On March 23, 2012, the exhibition of "2012 London Polo" debuted in London. The mayor of Newham attached great importance to and welcomed the exhibition, and planned to conduct a touring exhibition in key scenic spots of London. After that, the sculpture will permanently settle down in the London Olympic Park as a witness of friendship and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

The sculpture's debut in Beijing, sponsored by China Environment Art Committee, is designed to coordinate with the upcoming touring exhibition in London. It aims to take the advantage of the opportunity to refresh the memory of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, to promote the cultural interactions between China and Britain, and more importantly, to explore and demonstrate the true spirit of sportsmanship of the Olympic Games. In the meanwhile, as the year 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of Sino-British foreign affairs, the touring exhibition is a tribute to the amicable and friendly relationship between the two countries.

This event is supported by Beijing Olympic Park Administration Committee and Olympic Forest Park, which provide a beautiful venue for the exhibition, making the group sculpture more vivid and lively in a picturesque landscape.
