The two-month long exhibition in Beijing of Dunhuang grottos art has closed after giving residents in the capital the opportunity to view the splendor of ancient Dunghuang frescos.
The overcast skies didn't dampen the enthusiasm of visitors coming from far and wide on Friday, the last day of the exhibition.
Exhibition visitor said "I wish I could make time to visit the actual Mogao Grottos. But many people told me I wouldn't be able to see many of the items even if I went there. So I decided to come here instead. It's really an amazing opportunity. And today is the last day of the exhibition."
The Dunhuang exhibition has beaten attendance records for the National Art Museum of China.
Ma Shulin, Vice Curator of National Art Museum of China said "Over three hundred thousand people visited the exhibition in its first month alone. And in total we have had an estimated number of more than six hundred thousand visitors."
The bulk of the exhibits will next be displayed in neighboring Tianjin later this month.
