Preface

从“克莱因蓝”看“永刚红”

“克莱因蓝”以其绝对的单色性构建了一个超验的审美维度，按艺术家的说法，最单纯的色彩才能唤起最强烈的心灵感受力。克莱因描绘的蓝色，象征着天空和海洋，象征着地球，象征着无限。这是一种理想之蓝、绝对之蓝，其明净空旷往往使人迷失其中。而刘永刚描绘的“永刚红”则呈现出完全不同的文化逻辑——红色不再是红色记忆的特有语言，而是饱含东方生命意识的色彩叙事，其浓烈的朱砂色系始终保持着与土地、血液、火焰的物质关联，在画布、宣纸与矿物颜料的缠绵中，红色化作流淌的生命力，将水墨传统的“气韵生动”转化为当代视觉的中国符号。

刘永刚的红色调创作呈现出双重突破：在空间维度上，红色块面在二维平面中生长出雕塑般的体积感，这与他在立体造型领域的造诣形成互文；在时间维度上，层层晕染的色层既延续了传统工笔的“三矾九染”技法，又在现代构成中重构了时间的绵延性。这种将东方美学基因植入当代艺术语法的实践，使“永刚红”成为文化主体性的视觉证词。

当“克莱因蓝”在美术馆穹顶下制造形而上的精神真空时，“永刚红”却在画廊空间里铺展出灼热的生命图景。这不仅是色彩美学的分野，更是两种文明对存在本质的不同诠释：西方现代主义在祛魅中寻找救赎，而中国当代艺术正在返魅中重构传统。“永刚红”的艺术价值，恰恰在于它证明了单色绘画的现代性突围不必重复西方的精神苦旅，完全可以在本土文化根系中生长出新的可能性。

From “Klein Blue” to “Yonggang Red”

“Klein Blue” constructs a transcendent aesthetic dimension through its absolute monochromaticity. As the artist himself claimed, only the purest colors can evoke the most intense emotional resonance. Klein’s blue symbolizes the sky and the ocean, the Earth, and the infinite—an ideal blue, an absolute blue, whose clarity and vastness often leave viewers lost within it. In contrast, Liu Yonggang’s “Yonggang Red” operates within an entirely different cultural logic. Here, red is no longer just the language of historical memory but a vivid narrative infused with an Eastern consciousness of life. His deep vermilion hues remain materially connected to the earth, blood, and fire, flowing across canvas, xuan paper, and mineral pigments. In this interplay, red transforms into a dynamic force of life, translating the traditional Chinese concept of “qi yun sheng dong” (spiritual vitality) into a contemporary visual symbol.

Liu Yonggang’s exploration of red achieves a dual breakthrough. Spatially, his red forms grow from a two-dimensional surface into sculptural volumes, echoing his expertise in three-dimensional art. Temporally, his layered washes of color extend the traditional gongbi technique of “three alum fixatives, nine layers of dye” while reconstructing the continuity of time within modern compositions. By embedding Eastern aesthetics into the syntax of contemporary art, “Yonggang Red” stands as a visual testament to cultural subjectivity.     

If “Klein Blue” creates a metaphysical void beneath the museum dome, then “Yonggang Red” unfolds a burning life force within the gallery space. This contrast is more than just a divergence in color aesthetics—it reflects two civilizations’ distinct interpretations of existence itself. While Western modernism seeks redemption through demystification, Chinese contemporary art is rediscovering enchantment in reconstructing tradition. The artistic significance of “Yonggang Red” lies precisely in proving that monochromatic painting’s modern breakthrough need not retrace the West’s spiritual struggles; instead, it can evolve organically from the deep roots of its own cultural heritage, forging new possibilities.
