第三套人民币是中国人民银行于1962年4月20日开始发行的法定货币。它与第二套人民币比价相等，在市场上混合流通。

该套人民币先后共发行7种面额、8种原版、9种票券。如果按冠号、印制工艺和钞纸的不同，至少可细分为24种。其汉字行名仍沿用书体，但汉字面值改成了印刷宋体字。

第三套人民币从1962年4月20日发行1960年版枣红色1角券开始，到1974年1月5日发行最后一张1972年版5角券止，经过12年时间，共发行7种面额、8种原版、9种票券。如果按冠号、印制工艺和钞纸的不同至少可细分为24种。

第三套人民币较第二套人民币又有新的特点：一是主题思想鲜明，内容相互呼应，极富民族特色。二是进一步打破了边框式设计思想。三是色彩丰富。四是增设了壮文，调整了四种少数民族文字的排序和印制位置。五是缩小了票幅。六是画面设计和先进技术相结合。

第三套人民币是我国目前发行、流通时间最长的一套人民币，于2000年7月1日起停止在市场上流通。这套人民币以其主题思想鲜明、设计风格新颖、券别结构合理、主辅币品种齐全、印刷工艺先进并有较强的防伪性能等特点，在我国货币发行史上写下了光辉的一页。从收藏角度分析，是最有前景和潜力的一套人民币。

此组纸币由壹角、贰角、伍角(两张)、壹元组成。钱币设计充满新中国特色，表达出各族人民团结一致发展国家的动力。此组钱币保存得极好，伴随浓烈的历史气息，让那个时代的历史情怀得以充分展现，具有不可估计的收藏与观赏价值。
