​　　Shao Dazhen

　　Jin Rilong is an honest artist filled with a spirit of exploration. As early as 30 years ago, in the process of his study at the Department of Oil Painting in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, while working hard and trying his best to grasp and perfect his modeling skills, he had started to think about how to integrate his own conditions and find an artistic way of giving full rein to his own personality and talent. Based on his investigations into the national art treasure of the traditional murals in Dunhuang Grottoes, he deliberately started to explore the expressive strength of painting language on the plane, and his creations are full of a sense of music and freehand style that have attracted attention from the public. Since then, he has taught successively at two academies of fine arts in South Korea and, whilst  maintaining extensive contact with modern art, he began to explore the form of beauty in the painting language, including his use of acrylic for rich expressions of colors, brushstrokes and texture. Therefore his language tended to be subtle and abstract, with his artistic expression more delicate and referencing the cultural. On this basis, he took another step forward in mixed media and installation, and he also showed his talent in the field of modern design art. In his pursuit of the contemporary, he has demonstrated his broad talents in international vision and other skills.

　　For this exhibition, Jin Rilong displays his recent paintings in acrylic pigments over the past few years. In these paintings, he absorbs the freehand spirit of traditional Chinese art and a method of improvisation, between elaborative conception and arbitrary touch, i.e. between the intentional state and unintentional state, demonstrating both talent and wisdom. This arbitrary expression comes from either  the tradition of Chinese literati paintings, or from the concept that Western modern art attaches importance to the subconscious mind. These full-frame abstract images which are composed of dots, lines, planes and colors, although they are small in size, are full of sincere feelings and rich in expression. The compositions of his paintings give a distinctly integral impression. The details are ingenious: at first glance, they are attractive and impressive; but after careful observation, they convey an endless aftertaste. Among them, we can comprehend the strong modeling skills and comprehensive artistic accomplishment of the artist.

　　The reason that his paintings impress viewers does not lie in that his expressive form is a realistic depiction, imagery manifestation or abstract scribbling; what is important is that the artist expresses the true feelings that he has gained from real life. Jin Rilong’s works seem to be arbitrary or casual, but they convey the natural expression of his long-term accumulation of artistic experience. Compared with his earlier works, his ability to control painting materials and language seems to be more dextrous with each facility, and he also has the ability to judge situations with agility.Once he finds the unexpected skill elements which he can use on the images, he will immediately take the opportunity to extend and develop according to the situation. He does not hesitate to change the original concept and strives to create a new situation. Jin Rilong is naturally diligent with impeccable manners, observation of objects and study of the ancient and modern classic works with his heart and mind. Thus, in the process of dealing with abstract painting language, he is able to convey his plain and sincere feelings for people and Nature, which reflects his persistent pursuit of the truth, goodness and beauty. We, the people who appreciate the work of Jin Rilong, can also be touched by his honest, friendly and pure inner world, as well as his endless exploration in art.
