Zun is a general term for ceramic containers. It was used as a wine vessel and also as a sacrifice in the pre Qin period. Zun's usual shape is open, folded and round. It is found in the Yangtze River Basin, the Yellow River Basin, and all the major cultural sites of the Neolithic age. Most of them are made of pottery, with various patterns added to the surface for decoration. Generally, they are large in size, so it is estimated that they should be fixed objects.
After the middle period of Shang Dynasty, the shape of Zun changed a little, such as extravagant mouth, thick neck, folded shoulder, thrifty belly, and the bottom foot was also relatively raised. In the northern and Southern Dynasties, the shape of the utensils became slender and dignified, and the pattern was also complicated. By the middle and later period of the Northern Song Dynasty, the function of Zun had gradually changed, and the function of decoration had surpassed that of utility, but since the Yuan Dynasty, there had been basically no practical function. In the Qing Dynasty, Jingdezhen fired many varieties of Zun, such as Guanyin Zun, pomegranate Zun, fish basket Zun, no file Zun, etc., all of which were decorative display porcelain or ornaments in the imperial palace.
Generally, the folk distinction between Zun and bottle is based on the proportion of mouth and foot: big mouth and small foot are called Zun, small mouth and large foot are called bottle. Of course, it's just a folk saying, but it's not always true. For example, the cowpea red glaze radish Zun and Taibai Zun in the Kangxi year of the Qing Dynasty are the same as ordinary bottles, but the shape of the utensils is a little more special.
Its shape is open, thick neck, deep abdomen, round bottom and round foot. In the Shang Dynasty, there were primitive celadon statues, while in the Northern Dynasty, the lotus statues covered with blue glazes were tall, exquisite and rich. After the Song Dynasty, porcelain Zun prevailed, which was used to hold wine or make palace furnishings, such as Ru kiln tripod Zun and Chu halberd Zun. Jingdezhen kiln is rich in products, including apple Zun, fish basket Zun, pomegranate Zun, Taibai Zun, horseshoe Zun, complex son Zun, radish Zun, Guanyin Zun, Niutou Zun, etc.
In the long history of China, Zun has a very long history. In the Neolithic age, it was made of pottery, with the shape of open mouth, thick neck, deep abdomen, round foot and round bottom. Celadon was popular in the Shang Dynasty. It was originally a large and medium-sized ritual vessel for wine and sacrifice. Zun, like Yi, was originally a collective name for ritual utensils. Only after the Song Dynasty, it began to refer to a kind of utensils. Its basic shape was mouth wasting, long neck, round belly or square belly, with high circle feet. In the early and middle period of the Shang Dynasty, there were shoulders in respect of all the venerable figures. From the late Shang Dynasty to the early Western Zhou Dynasty, there were square and Gu shaped statues. In the Western Zhou Dynasty, there was another round Buddha with a drooping belly.
The primitive celadon Zun appeared as early as the middle of Shang Dynasty. In the southern and Northern Dynasties, the Zun became slender and dignified, and the decoration began to become complicated. After the Song Dynasty, porcelain Zun began to be popular. It was used to hold wine or make palace furnishings. Its general characteristics were shorter than the bottle, open mouth, thick waist, mouth larger than the belly or mouth bottom similar, such as Ruyao Zun and halberd Zun. In the middle and later period of the Northern Song Dynasty, the function of Zun began to change from the original practical function to the decorative function.
Since the Yuan Dynasty, Zun has basically no practical function. Jingdezhen in the Qing Dynasty had the most colorful porcelain statues, firing many kinds of statues and statues, such as guanyinzun, apple Zunshi, Yulan Zun, Taibai Zun, radish Zun, ringing Zun, Raphan Zun, deer head Zun, Phoenix Tail Zun, pomegranate Zun, complex son Zun, etc., which were used for furnishing or ornamental objects of the Imperial Palace, with color glaze and painted varieties as common.
