光绪元宝是在清朝时期，光绪皇帝在位的时候，由于是慈禧太后当权，所以光绪皇帝将所有的精力都放在了钱币的铸造上，所以每一枚古钱币光绪元宝不管是从设计还是从制造上来看都是非常精美的，图案非常美观，可以说是我国古钱币中的精品之作。从图上我们可以看出它的主要图案是一条形态精美的龙，另一面的主要图案是中间刻着“光绪元宝”四个字。并且在后期，辛亥革民爆发，所以光绪元宝停产，因此数量非常稀少，并且伴随着战争的开始，很多都被西方入侵者抢走，在今天的收藏市场上是很难见到古钱币光绪元宝。

“光绪元宝”当时共十九个省局铸造。除中央户部，地方省所铸铜元，皆在其正面上缘镌写省名。计有：1户部；2北洋；12湖北；7江南；15河南； 11湖南；14江西；9山东；8广东；5清江；6浙江；16江苏；13四川； 10福建；17安徽；3吉林；4奉天；18广西；19新疆；20黑龙江。
