本书编者经历年来的花鸟画创作，现在选印数十种，藉供读者观摩，以启发创作的画意。我们在临摹和写生的过程中，学好花鸟画的技法，又积累了一定的素材，于是可以进行创作。作画时要胸有成竹，意在笔先，计划好整个构图，才可下笔。

　　第一，画要有宾主。例如在花鸟画中以花和鸟为主，叶与草为宾。陪衬得宜，主体便可突出。第二，要知所取舍。画中的花鸟鱼虫，要经过美化，才画下来。第三，要合情合理。花鸟鱼虫，都各有其生长的规律，秋菊春兰，时令必须相宜。读者细心玩味示范作品，便可领略其概梗了。
