Anna Ridler was born in 1985 in the United Kingdom. She was recognized by Artnet, as one of nine pioneering artists that explore AI’s creative potential. She was also honorably mentioned in the 2019 Ars Electronica Golden Nica award for the category AI & Life Art. She is currently nominated for a Design of the Year award by the Design Museum for her work on datasets and categorization. She is interested in working with collections of information and data, particularly self-generated datasets, to create new and unusual narratives in a variety of mediums.

I find this technology - particularly machine learning - very inspirational. It is very much a tool and a process. I don’t find it encroaching on human expression, I find it a way of expressing myself more fully, in ways that I was never able to do before.

In Ridler’s comprehension, "drawing" is both a noun and a verb - it is a thing and an action - but while an AI might be able to produce a painting, it might not be able to draw with consciousness. How it constructs an image is fundamentally different from how an artist constructs an image.

I am an artist who is interested in using technology to find human-scale stories - I’m very interested in working with abstract collections of information or data, particularly self-generated datasets, to create new and unusual narratives. I work heavily with technology at both the front and back end of projects. I intend to make work that uses these technologies as a tool to talk about other things - memory, love, decay - or to augment or change the story in a way that otherwise would not happen.
