Description by artist QiHong
The understated mare with mystical qualities
此马若遂千里志 追风犹可到天涯 。 这匹马如果有机会驰骋,就会像古代追风马那样自由飞奔,瞬间可达天边。 作者借马抒情,自己怀才不遇,不能施展自己的抱负。this horse if then still be thousands of miles away to the horizon Chi Herd. If you have the opportunity to ride this horse, it will be like the ancient Herd galloping horse as free, instant access to the horizon. Authors by horse lyric, underappreciated, cannot display their own ambitions.
Art appreciation by Art Critic, Soolian Percy Chua
Horse to Dragon
The horse summons all its strength and stretches its neck all the way to the clouds, transforming into a heavenly horse; both sharing a common head. The inscription trailing its tail leaves a persuasion for the reader to follow the heavenly quest of transformation into a 'dragon'( ie 8 foot long heavenly horse).
The second horse is filled with self-doubt. The horse appears from nowhere (with its tail clipped off the picture frame), and adopts a wide 'questioning' stance. A huge mass of black clouds nearly obscures the horse's head. Fine lines of the lower jaw almost betray a sigh of exasperation.
This pair is a moving piece of an artist, knowing full well his own potential, yet faced with self-doubt. It captures the artist's struggle to convey the qualities of a good horse yet unrecognised by people.
Poem by Soolian
Pic 1
Land-bound,
On mortal ground.
Neck stretched to heavens,
To become a dragon.
Pic 2
From faraway lands...
Plunged into self-doubt,
Wondering when I can,
Reach to the clouds.
Poem on Artist feelings
The beast you see,
Is not what you perceive.
The being in me;
Doth in heavens conceive.
