大生里骑楼街区位于厦门市思明南路298号，是民国时期厦门市政更新运动中道路都市主义下的“社会-空间”产物。作为中国东南沿海最早的一批钢筋混凝土结构的骑楼型集合住宅，大生里见证了厦门近百年的社会变迁与城市发展，同时它也是闽南建筑传统类型演变中的一个典型代表。作为华侨兴业公司的地产项目，大生里建成于1933年。随后曾陆续转变为归侨救济与集中收容所（1936-1937），部队驻扎地（1939），民国末期的“流莺”安置地等。1954年厦门大学买下大生里的西里作为其教职工宿舍并对其实施正规化管理，而东里成为了公共的城市住房，政府将其安置给普通市民居住。随后东里的居民于90年代因居住紧张等议题发生了大规模屋顶加建、自建等现象，逐渐形成了今天所见的非正式屋顶聚落。由于不同的空间类型、产权模式、管理制度与使用模式，大生里的东里与西里呈现出了两种截然不同的都市景观。其中东里的非正式屋顶聚落尤为特别。作品将以空间叙事的手法再现该骑楼街区的百年社会空间变迁。

Dashengli Qilou(arcade) neighborhood is situated at 298, Siming South Road, Xiamen. It is the byproduct from the ROAD URBANISM of Urban Renewal Movement by Chinese government. Being one of the first concrete structured Qilou blocks in the southeast coast, Dashengli witnessed the social changes and urban development of Xiamen for decades. At the same time, it is also one of the most classic cases of Qilou block in the southern Fujian. Dashengli was constructed in 1933 by an overseas Chinese industrial company acting as a real estate project. The arcade street once acted as a relief shelter for the concentration of Burmese compatriots and returned overseas Chinese from Taiwan (1936-1937). In 1939, it was used as housing for the troops to settle. Around the period when Xiamen was liberated, it was also used as resettlement for prostitutes. In 1954, Xiamen University bought the west part of the arcade block to serve as staff accommodation with formal management. However, the east was made into public housing by the government for the citizens but with the increase in housing demands in the 1990s, the residents made for major additions on the rooftop with informal management, forming the present "infomal rooftop landscape". Due to the different spatial typology, ownership, management regulation and occupation mode, the east and west of Dashengli arcade presents two very different urban landscape. Within, the more interesting sight is the informal rooftop settlement on the east side. Through spatial narrative approach, this work presents the centennial socio-spatialchanges in Dashengli Qilou neighborhood.
