高足杯是一种受蒙古族文化影响、极具时代特征的器物。高足杯下承以高足若把柄,故俗称“把杯”。其功用为盛装蒙古贵族喜爱的奶酪、马奶,甚至是“忽迷思”(用马乳制作的酒),即当奶杯、酒杯使用,元贵族使用的金银器也多以高足杯形式出现。高足杯堪称元代最流行的实用器具,因其便于端拿,朝鲜的汉语教科书《朴通事谚解》称其为“上马杯儿”。
