Chun Oi Mei is a talented young painter. I first met her at my home in New York about 11or 12years ago. At that time she was a lovely and pretty little girl, whose character was somewhat special or singular, she was not gregarious with the children of her same age. As for her reaction to adults she appeared sometimes sensitive and sometime nonchalant…
Years went by. she accidentally tried painting pictures and was falling to love the fine art deeply even since. For the painting, she would take a long walk in the rain to the studio. Days after days, a lot of works have been accumulated through the years. She loves her paintings, as they are the part of her body. She never gave away her works to anyone.
Recently, I saw Amy again. She has gown up. By letting me to see her paintings. She was so exciting that she was pacing rapidly in front of me during the almost entire course. I can feel how important are these works to her. These painting are really beautiful, especially the colors. No matter what form of the art: imitating practices, life drawings or creating paintings, she always takes her own way and never attached to the experiences from others. Though she wields her brush on the canvas like a bucking bronco, yet good in reining it. She finally has found the destining home of her life. I believe this is so call”Heart Pictures ”. Many painters have never experienced the realm of this sort. I believe she has a relatively secluded world of her own , in which she has confidence and self-sufficiency. Those who have ever leamed painting may draw some inspiration from this, especially to those beginners and student candidates for Fine Art College and their teachers. They needed think about it. I am afraid the first thing one must t is to draw for one’s own sake. He, then, will never lose his enthusiasm. Next, he will have the art of painting, and through the art of the painting to reach and touch people. It occurs to me that the way we now deal with painting, seemingly enough, is to’put the cart before the horse’. For many paintings, we are unable to find the painters themselves in it .
