Floyd Norman is an animator, comic book artist, and author whose work can be found in Sleeping Beauty, The One Hundred and One Dalmatians , Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mary Poppins. In the 1950s, he became Disney’s first African-American animator, garnering the respect of Walt Disney who saw some of his inter-office sketches made to entertain co-workers and then reassigned him to the story department to work on The Jungle Book. In addition to his work at Disney, he has published several books of cartoons and served as a story artist for Pixar. At 81, he still contributes to Disney, now as a freelancer.
