Since the inception of mankind, humans had the need to artistically express their vision of the environment in which they lived. This tells us that artistic expression is an existential need of a human being, a connection between nature and a man expressed through artistic elements. This primordial need to create art forms that clearly associate with the connection between man and nature, are visible in the works of Mr. Dong Dafeng. The spirit of traditional Chinese painting has incredible strenght. That strenght is noticeable even today in works of contemporary Chinese artists. In the process of creation, contemporary Chinese artists affirm their individuality in the fusion of the traditional and the modern. This special feature of contemporary Chinese artists is clearly visible in the works of Mr. Dong Dafeng.In order for an observer to understand his works, he has to know Chinese history, tradition and to consider the bonds of feelings and presented motives in multiple ways. I'm most impressed with the technological procedure of these works. An exceptional spiritual commitment is needed for the creation of such works, as well as concentration and practice of the hand, because there is no place for the wrong brushstroke in these works. Dong Dafeng studies clearly each of his brushstrokes, which indicates nurturing Chinese calligraphy that further influenced the virtuosity of this artist. Through the brush, artist makes every single trace of ink come alive. The relationship between the artist and the artwork is completely intimate. A skilful combination of traditional Chinese ink painting with an abstract approach to the form, clearly speaks of the value of this artist. The particularity of the works and the personality of the artist himself confirm the spiritual level of contemporary abstract art in China. Mr. Dong Dafeng clearly follows the path of traditional Chinese artists, who, in addition to the painting skills, nurture philosophy and literature as well. This type of contemporary creative approach has its own recognizability, which should always be understood in the life context of the men from China. The message contained in these works is clear, the unity of man and nature is unbreakable. Mr. Dong Dafeng, as a person who successfully nurtures tradition in context of contemporary abstract art, represents a role model for the new generations of contemporary Chinese artists.
