The Parkview Museum is pleased to announce the screening of one of the most acclaimed documentaries of Yang Bo titled "Uummannaq Children's Home”, based on the shootings made by the movie director Yang Bo during the artist Liu Xiaodong’s journey to Greenland. 2004年，艺术家刘小东开始一场跨越边界的艺术旅程，他先后游走于金门、奉节、泰国、青海、意大利、美国、古巴、巴勒斯坦、以色列、印尼、南非等地，用画笔记录下一张张平凡的面孔，并感受着世界的变迁。而在画布之外，青年导演杨波将他的每一个足迹与内心的独白用影像的方式呈现出来。

Since 2004, artist Liu Xiaodong embarked on a cross-border art journey. He traveled successively to Kinmen, Fengjie, Thailand, Qinghai, Italy, the United States, Cuba, Palestine, Israel, Indonesia, South Africa, and other places, using a brush to record the everyday faces of local people and to capture the ever-changing world. Meanwhile, outside the canvas, young director YANG Bo illustrates Liu's every footprint and his inner monologue in the form of images.

2017年7月，刘小东与他的创作团队出发前往乌门纳克（Uummannaq），位于格陵兰中部西侧海岸边的岛屿，一座“千人之城”。由于岛屿陡峭的一面呈现心脏的形状，所以格陵兰语“乌门”是心的意思，“纳克”是山的意思，乌门纳克 Uummannaq—— 心之山。在世界的尽头，在心之山上，一首关于生命之美的诗篇正在徐徐展开。

In July 2017, Liu Xiaodong and his creative team set off for Uummannaq, also called a "city of a thousand people" -- an island located on the west coast of central Greenland. Since the steep side of the island presents the shape of a heart, the Greenlandic word "Uumman" means heart, "Naq" means mountain. Hence the name Uummannaq -- the mountain of heart. In such a remote place, a poem about the beauty of life is gradually unfolding on this heart-shaped mountain.

在杨波导演的纪录片里面我们可以看到两种视角的并存。第一层视角是通过画家（刘小东）的眼睛去观察世界；第二层则是通过导演的主观视角，或称为“摄影机之眼”。纪录片将运动中的图像真实地记录了下来，而这一个个瞬间最终“凝固”在了艺术家的画作中。

In the documentary directed by YANG Bo, we can see the co-existence of two perspectives. The first perspective is the observation of the world through the painter’s eyes; while the second layer is the subjective perspective of the film director or the "eye of the camera". The documentary captures the images in movement that are eventually frozen on the painting.

在世界的尽头，有一座遗世独立的孤儿院。2017年春、夏，艺术家刘小东在这里度过了一段难忘的时光。在刘小东心中，这里是一首关于世界尽头的诗歌，既脆弱又美丽。在孩子们的眼中，他不仅是一位好奇的客人，也是他们见到的第一位画家。

In Uummannaq, there is an orphanage that remains detached from the rest of the world. In the spring and summer of 2017, artist Liu Xiaodong spent an unforgettable time here. In Liu Xiaodong's mind, here is a poem about the end of the world, fragile yet stunning. For the local children, he was a curious guest and the first painter they had ever met.

“无论艺术家还是拍摄者，我们关注的勘定是真实发生的人和事物，但这之后的表现手法就是艺术家有自己的处理。”

"Regardless of the artist or the photographer, what we really focus on is the people and things that actually happened. And the way of expression afterward represents the artist's own approach."
