谭平的展览将他从事艺术以来的全部作品作为一个背景，而展出的却是专门为这个展览创作的一件作品，反映着谭平的版画经历了中西艺术的洗礼，逐步走向独立而绝无仅有的境界。这种境界包含着一种社会的责任精神，在经历了个人的艰难与卓绝的奋斗之后，留下稳健而自由的行进的痕迹；同时又继承中国书法千年的传统，最后简化为一条线，以凝结艺术家内心的诗意与对人类的关怀。这一条线不仅承托着作者的修养、知识、经验和生命意识，而且单纯却又丰富，把不可言说的状态充分地表达，同时又让每一个观者勾起各自心中无限的回响。——朱青生

　　In the Exhibition, all existing works of TAN Ping become a background for his latest piece, which presents a uniqueness developed from Baptism of Chinese and Western Art in his early stage. This uniqueness a social responsibility, a trace of his sturdy and liberated advance through self-motivation and hardworking, a line continued from the thousand-year tradition of Chinese Calligraphy as a condense of his inner poetry as well as human solicitude. The line bears the artist’ cultivation, knowledge, experience and life awareness—simple and rich, subtle yet fully-expressed, and touch the heart of viewer.

　　《+40m》这件作品的创作构思源起自中国美术馆圆形主厅，一根一刀刻出的40米长线贯穿中国美术馆主厅巨大的弧形墙面(弧形墙面的长度为37m)。而谭平在中国美术馆的这次个展将围绕这根线展开。

　　40米长，20厘米宽的长卷式作品呈现的不仅是线条的节奏变化，更为观者带来新的对于“流动性”的体验。这种“流动性”，一方面来自视觉的直观感受，另一方面来自作品的气息变化与艺术家的生命节奏。

　　即将在中国美术馆圆形主厅展出的40米长的木版画从未有先例。艺术家使用17块2米4的木板，用一天的时间一刀下去刻出这条40米长线。刻完的17块木板又是在印制方法的不断调整与试验中，最终得以在一张40米长的纸上完整呈现。同时在这次展览中，美术馆圆形主厅后面的弧形长廊中还将展出利用数码影像技术呈现的动态《+40m》。

　　The inspiration of +40m comes from the Rotunda at National Art Museum of China. The 40-meter-long single-knife-cutting line extends through the huge arc-shaped wall of the Rotunda (the length of which is 37m). Tan Ping’s one-man-show at NAMOC will be revolving around this line.

　　This 40-meter-long, 20-centimeter-wide scroll-like work goes beyond presenting the rhythmic change of a line, and points to a fresh, “fluid” viewer’s experience. Its “fluidity” is perceived through direct visual contact, at the same time fluctuates with the changing rhythms of the work’s ambience and the artist’s life.

　　Such a display has no precedence at NAMOC. The artist has carved on seventeen 2.4-meter wooden panels, with one knife, to create this 40-meter-long line in a single day. The carved panels were then re-arranged through various printing experiments before they were eventually manifested in their entirety on a 40-meter piece of paper. Echoing the display, the curved corridor behind the Rotunda will be presenting a dynamic version of +40m with digital video technology.
