Female torso ——

《Female torso》
Contemporary artists try to break away from the traditional artistic thinking or producing process; simultaneously being multi-faceted to explain their thoughts and ideologies on social situations, and to reflect the changes of the times through creation. Through a variety of time and space backgrounds, artistic creations are able to influence the closeness between people and the environment with diverse concepts.

During the 15 years of living in Italy, art has always existed like air has. Every day, I was able to see sculptures done by master sculptors been applied or placed in various places or corners. My life experience in Italy gave me a strong interest in classical human sculpture. It has always been my goal in the pursuit of incorporating life experience in Italy as well as the European classical carving skills along with the oriental humanistic and eclectic thinking into the composition. If classical sculptural techniques learned from Europe are the flesh and bones of creation, then coming back to Asia simply injects the soul into it.

The perfect proportions of the human body have long been the target pursued by Western classical sculptures, while Eastern art has always been dedicated to the pursuit of balance between nature and harmony. Having returned to Asia in early 2013 then started to formally step into the field of artistic creation, I began to ponder over how to present the spirit of East-West culture in a harmonious way through the integration of human bodies and other elements. In the creative process, I often reflected upon in how to present the hard marble in a soft form and combine the lines of the human body with it. The hardened stone exudes a figure that’s not only soft but also tough in announcing the truth of that eternal life in a simple and tangible language. Seemingly simple lines of my sculptures are like a mirror which reflects my deep, inner thoughts of the past, the present, and the future.
