Working from dawn to dusk,he not only paints,Wenxin conducts workshops, helps to market his and his son’s work in six countries, and makes his own frames and packing crates. When a visitor suggests that Wenxin hire a carpenter to make the 60 crates necessary to ship his paintings to an upcoming art show in Korea,he quickly says,“Ho! I am a very good carpenter.I can make”.
Born in 1928,Wenxin has the strength and physique of amuch younger man,and he needs it,spending much of his time flying between his homes in Albuquerque,New Mexico, and Beijing. His work has won the respect of both American and Chinese collectors and has earned him many awards, including Best of Show from the Oil Painters of America, which has bestowed upon him the status of Master Signature Painter.Wenxin exhibits in the OPA shows as well as the prestigious Artists of Ameirca and the Prix de West shows.Recent expositions in Taiwan also have featured his work..
Wenxin’s work is so sought after that his galleries find it almost impossible to keep his many collectors happily supplied.I sometimefeel like tube of toothpaste that is being squeezed at both ends ,he says.
That creative tube is content, however,to be painting with all the freedom he wants.“My heart is still in China, but I paint for all the world to see and understand my country.” Wenxin says. January/February 1997 Art of the West.
