“It has to do the while facing the exit of consciousness and language in an individual, how to adjust and understand the meaning and structure of home. I’m invested the formation of immigrants under various time structures, and how it could become potent and complete in the context of transnational identities.”
About the Artist
Shen Xin (Born 1990, Chengdu) lives and works in London and Amsterdam. Shen was awarded the BALTIC Artists’ Award in 2017; and in 2018-19, she participates in the prestigious residency program with Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam.
Shen’s practice engages with moving image and event through the scripted and the informative, examining the techniques and effects of how emotion, judgment, and ethic circulate through individual and collective subjects. By focusing on interpersonal complexity and political narratives, her films often aim to generate reflexiveness to dismantle dominant power structures.

Warm Spell,2018

Shen Xin’s new work Warm Spell uses slicing techniques to create a narrative about Climate Change and the disparity between high emission countries that are most immune to its effects, and countries (such as Thailand) that rely heavily on natural resources yet are facing more imminent threats. In the film, the perspective of the haunting and ghostly presence is introduced alongside images from Ko Yao Yai, which is located at the south of Phuket, Thailand.
Provocation of the Nightingale,2017

Filmed in the theatre at Asia Cultural Centre in Gwangju Korea, the four channels video installation Provocation of the Nightingale presents a dialogue between lover, animation characters sharing their DNA testing results, two dancers performing and found footage playing on a TV in the centre of the theatre.
