#AmericanAuthors# Emily Dickinson
A nonconformist from a well-respected family—her grandfather founded the prestigious Amherst University— Emily Dickinson was known in her community as an eccentric, rarely ever glimpsed and almost always in white clothing. Dickinson became a recluse in the last decades of her life, never wanting to leave the house—and then later, her bedroom. Upon her death, her sister discovered in her room a hidden treasure trove of almost two thousand original poems. Upon their publication, Dickinson’s star soared, and her creative use of form and syntax made her one of the most famous and influential poets in American history.
Her enduring fame and impact on the American literary and popular culture landscape is entirely posthumous. What writer fascinates you?
