嵌瓷，是广东潮汕地区富有地方特色的民间工艺，其特点是采用釉彩陶瓷片，经剪取、敲制，镶嵌各种装饰图案或立体画屏。多用于庙宇、祠堂和民居建筑上的装饰，是别具一格的建筑装饰艺术，俗称“扣饶”或“贴饶”。

嵌瓷有平嵌、浮嵌、立体嵌三种类型。其表现题材广泛，多以花鸟虫鱼、瑞兽、人物故事为主。其中屋脊上的嵌瓷最有特色，卷楚尾常饰有戏剧故事，如《三国》、《封神榜》人物等，有如在露天舞台唱大戏，就像潮汕俗话所说：厝角头有戏出。

卢芝高先生出生于潮州嵌瓷艺术世家，早年师从父辈从事古建筑嵌瓷壁画民间工艺，是潮汕嵌瓷工艺领域的优秀代表人物。现为国家级非物质文化遗产(潮州嵌瓷)代表性传承人，广东省工艺美术大师。其代表作有潮州凤凰洲公园天后宫屋顶中脊嵌瓷、潮州凤凰洲公园“奎阁与凤凰台”嵌瓷壁画、潮州青龙古庙嵌瓷等。也曾应邀前往泰国为北榄府七剑王公慈善堂制作嵌瓷，在海外赢得盛誉。

卢芝高先生的嵌瓷艺术，继承了传统嵌瓷的优秀品德，以花鸟虫鱼瑞兽表达人们对吉祥富贵美好生活的向往。其中尤为重要的是，用古典经典故事和戏曲人物，对中国传统儒家“忠恕”、“仁义”、“孝悌”等家国观念和宗族文化的褒扬，其嵌瓷艺术的精神旨归直指传统人伦道德的根本，这就是我们将展览主题定义为“原道”的所在。在嵌瓷艺术的形式表现上，卢芝高先生既有对传统的民间工艺继承坚守，同时又有效地借鉴吸收其他中国传统艺术的因素，对古老的嵌瓷艺术有所创新和发扬光大。本次展览展出卢芝高先生精心制作的嵌瓷优秀作品30余件，全面展示卢先生嵌瓷的精湛造诣，让观众领略潮汕嵌瓷艺术的独特魅力。

广东美术馆一向关注民间美术。艺术家如何借鉴民间美术中鲜活的因子，从原生态的民间美术吸取丰富的营养氧分，做到艺术接地气；而民间美术如何摆脱世俗功利的羁绊，不断提纯，清除庸俗之风，登堂入室进入艺术大雅殿宇，始终是广东美术馆注重的学术课题。本次展览是广东美术馆再次与道地的民间艺术结缘，与民间艺术家一起，将纯正的潮汕民间艺术引进美术博物馆，与广大观众见面共享的一次别开生面的新探索和尝试。

Inlaid porcelain belongs to one of the most characteristic folk arts in Guangdong Chaozhou-Shantou area. It applies glazed ceramic plate to inlay a variety of decorative patterns or three-dimensional mosaic painted screen with a craft relates to cutting and knocking skills. As a unique Art Deco of architecture, inlaid porcelain is found in temples, ancestral halls and residential architectural decoration. It is commonly known as "Buckle Stack" or "Stick Stack".

Inlaid porcelain could be divided into three subgroups: flat porcelain, semi-tridimensional porcelain and tridimensional porcelain. With a wide-range motif, insects, fish, auspicious animals, and narratives are among the most common themes in this craft. In a building the roof is usually highlighted by the most distinctive inlaid porcelain, which is often decorated with figures from drama stories, such as "Three Kingdoms", "The Legend of Deification", etc. Therefore the roof becomes a stage for various dramas. Just as the saying of Chaoshan region goes: a drama is always shown on the ridge.

Mr. Lu Zhigao was born in family of hereditary craft in inlaid porcelain. His apprentice started early and studied ancient architecture, inlaid porcelain and wall-painting under the seniors from his family. He is now one of the most outstanding representatives in his field with masterpieces such as the inlaid porcelain of “Temple of the Queen of Heaven” in Fenghuang-zhou Park, the wall-paintings of “Kui Pavilion and Phoenix Palace” in Fenghuang-zhou Park, and the inlaid porcelain in Qinglong Ancient Temple of Chaozhou. Besides, Mr. Lu has been invited to Samut Prakan Province, Thailand for the decorating job of the Noble Qijian Charitable Foundation, which contributed to his reputation in the overseas.

Mr. Lu Zhigao’s porcelain art has inherited the excellent moral character from traditional porcelain, expressing a universal yearning from people for a well-being through the images of flowers, birds and auspicious animals. Particularly, he adopts the classical stories and opera characters to express his homage towards the traditional Chinese Confucianism characterized with "forbearance", "righteousness", and "filial piety". His inlaid porcelain perfectly incarnates the root of the traditional human ethics and morality, which is the exact reason for the title of this exhibition Ultimate Law. In formal expression Mr. Lu Zhigao on one hand embraces the traditional folk craft skills; on the other hand he effectively learns from other traditional Chinese art forms and hence brings innovation to this ancient craft. More than 30 pieces of artworks of Mr. Lu Zhigao are showcased in this exhibition to demonstrate his virtuosity, allowing viewers to appreciate this art form from Chaoshan region.

Guangdong Museum of Art has been constantly concerned folk art. It has always been an academic subject for the museum to explore the folk art: how the artists could absorb the fresh factors of folk art and appropriate the rich elements from the primitive art forms so that their creativity could be more accessible to the public; how the folk art could slip the leash of utilitarianism, ceaselessly purify and enter the center of art world. This exhibition is a fruitful achievement for both Guangdong Museum of Art and the authentic folk art. Together with folk artists, we have introduced the Chaoshan Folk Art to the audience and share a spectacular exploration with them.
