李勇（笔名如一）是一个北京本地画家，他致力于传统水墨画独特的现代的探索。

　　如一出生于1966年，他的天赋在很小的时候就呈现了。他在很多教材上画满了画，甚至覆盖了文本。在当时的中国，他很快遭遇了逆风的僵化的教育系统，他的一个老师告诉他，“你将无法通过绘画谋生”。由于数学和物理分数很差，他在中学后结束了正规的学校教育。但如一一直对中国古典文学和诗歌有浓厚的兴趣和深刻的理解。中学毕业后，如一花了五年时间在琉璃厂画外销画来资助他的家庭。

　　1988年，如一遇到了按台湾的古董商吳皆盛。这次相遇为如一开启了一扇门，使他成为新中国先驱古董收藏家之一。如意花了大量时间研究中国古典绘画和书法、文人艺术、石雕、木雕、家具、古地图，深思着这些艺术形式深刻的内在价值。这些研究增强了他对中国古典绘画的理解。如一曾说过，他所接收的大部分重要的教育源自于对社会艺术的深思，而非学术背景。如一用许多时间来旅行，尤其是山区，他在那里找到了持续不断的灵感。

　　2008年，如一用日本董事会支持的宣纸和水墨以强烈的冲动再次开始了绘画。如一开发了一种描绘光洒满云雨的独特方法，这使得他的作品在传统形式下有了新的面貌。如意对山，云，和学者的岩石的热情可以很容易地从他的作品中看到，其中大部分作品以墨和偶然生成的极少量的色彩绘制而成。光通常不是中国传统水墨画中最重要的元素，但如一扩展了经典方法的新篇章。

The formation of Ruyi's painting

　　YongLi(pseudonym Ruyi) is a Bijing-based artist whose focus is on traditional ink painting but with an unigue mordern touch.

　　Born in Beijing on 23rd,1966,Ruyi's natural talent exhibited itself at an early age.Many of his school textbooks were filled with his drawings and often even coverd the text.He soon encoutered headwind within the rigid educational system in place in China at that time. One of his teachers told him"you will not be able to make a living by painting".Due to his poor score in mathematics and physics,his formal school education ended after middle school.But Ruyi had always had strong interest and deep understanding in classic Chinese literature and poetry.After middle school,Ruyi spend five years in Lliulichang to paint export paintings to help his family financially.

　　In 1988,Ruyi met Jieshen Wu,an antique collector from Taiwan.This encounter opened a new door for Ruyi and he became one of the New China's pioneer antique collectors.Ruyi spend a great deal of time studying classic Chinese paintings and calligraphy,scholar's art,stone carving,wood carving,furniture,and ancient maps,contemplating the deep interal value of these art forms.Such study enhanced his understanding of classic Chinese paintings.Ruyi has said that he received his most significant education from contemplating art in social,non-academic setting.Ruyi spent much time traveling,particularly to mountains,where he fingds constant and sustaining inspiration.

　　In 2008,Ruyi had the srtong urge to start painting again using Japanese board-backed rice paper and ink.Ruyi has developed a unigue approach of depicting light shedding over the clouds before and after rain,which gives his works a fresh look within the traditional format.Ruyi's passion for mountains,clouds,and scholar's rocks can easily be seen from his artworks,the majority of which are executed with ink and very occasionally with limited color.Light is typically not the most important element found in traditional Chinese ink painting.Ruyi has expanded the vocabulary of a classic methodology.
