以“想象的国界”为主题的第12届光州双年展于9月7日在韩国光州开幕,香格纳艺术家阿彼察邦·韦拉斯哈古、陈维参展。此次双年展囊括了来自43个国家的165位艺术家,由来自世界各地的十一位策展人呈现七个独立的主题展览。
Titled Imagined Borders, the 12th Gwangju Biennale Exhibition opens on 7 September in Gwangju, South Korea, which includes the works by ShanghART artists Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Chen Wei. The biennale showcases the works of 165 artists from 43 countries, spread across a series of seven independently curated thematic exhibitions by a collective of 11 curators from all around the world:

阿彼察邦携作品”Invisibility“ (2016)参加泰国MAIIAM当代美术馆策展人Gridthiya Gaweewong的主题展览《面向幻影边界(Facing Phantom Borders)》。这一展览试图与首届光州双年展的主题“跨越边界(Beyond the Borders)”展开对话,从多方面的角度来探讨移民议题,在当代社会的语境下重新思索边境与迁徙的意义。同时,阿彼察邦应邀参与了这届光州双年展意义非凡的新项目——GB Commision,创作一件场域特定装置,与光州的历史和精神展开对话。
Apichatpong's work 'Invisibility' (2016) is exhibited in the section 'Facing Phantom Borders' by Gridthiya Gaweewong, the curator of MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, Thailand. This exhibition attempts to start a conversation with Beyond the Borders, the first Gwangju Biennale. It reflects on the issues of migration from a multifaceted perspective and reconsiders the meaning of borders and migration in a contemporary sense. Furthermore, Apichatpong is invited to join the monumental new programme – GB Commision, to create a site-specific installation that respond to the history and spirit of Gwangju.

陈维携多件作品参展了策展人、艺术史学家Yeon Shim Chung和Yeewan Koon的展览单元《断层(Faultlines)》。借用“断层”这一地理概念,该单元旨在探讨未来一代人所遇到的阻碍,同时质疑当下我们是否面临着人类中心主义的境地。从构建没有边界的乌托邦世界的想象出发,深度探讨在变化莫测的历程中人类生存的意义。无论是拍摄夜店还是街景,陈维的摄影作品都折射出了当乌托邦梦境触碰到现实世界时的界限。
Chen Wei's works are exhibited in the section 'Faultlines' curated by the art historian Yeon Shim Chung and Yeewan Koon. Borrowing the geological concept of 'fault', this section aims to address the burden on future generations, while questioning whether we are heading for an apocalypse in the Anthropocene age. Taking a step away from imagining a utopian world without borders, this section discusses the survival of humanity in depth, in a world where nothing is predictable. By creating the photographic images whether of nightclubs or street scenes, Chen Wei's work relfects on the borders that are made when utopian dreams and the disenchanted realities meet.

Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL
阿彼察邦出生于曼谷,在泰国东北部孔敬长大。1994 年,他开始制作电影,并于 2000 年完成了他的第一部代表作。自 1998 年开始,阿彼察邦开始在世界各地展览他的装置。如今,已经是国际上最重要的视觉艺术家之一。阿彼察邦的作品常常带有丰富的抒情和神秘感,并与记忆交织,微妙地探究个人信仰和社会问题。
Born in Bangkok, Apichatpong grew up in Khon Kaen in north-eastern Thailand. He began making films and videoshorts in 1994 and completed his first feature in 2000. He has also mounted exhibitions and installations in many countries since 1998 and is now recognised as a major international visual artist. Lyrical and often fascinatingly mysterious, his film works are non-linear, dealing with memory and in subtle ways invoking personal politics and social issues.
作为一名泰国独立电影人,阿彼察邦在1999年成立了Kick the Machine Films,并致力于实验、独立电影制作。阿彼察邦代表了当代电影院中最原始的心声。他之前的六部电影代表作、短片以及装置项目在国际上被广泛认可并包揽了众多奖项,包括两次戛纳电影节的获奖。
Working independently of the Thai commercial film industry, he devotes himself into promoting experimental and independent film-making through his producing company Kick the Machine Films, founded in 1999, which also producesall his films. Apichatpong Weerasethakul is recognised as one of the most original voices in contemporary cinema. His previous six feature films, short films and installations have won him widespread international recognition andnumerous awards, including two prizes from the Cannes Film Festival.

陈维 CHEN Wei
陈维,一九八零年出生于浙江,现生活工作于北京。他的艺术创作始于杭州,最初从事声音艺术创作与表演,而后转向于影像及装置。其作品在国内外重要展览与机构频繁展出。
Chen Wei, Born in 1980, Zhejiang Province, China. Currently lives and works in Beijing. He has been engaged in sound art and performance, and then turned to the video and installation. Chen Wei has exhibited extensively and internationally at numerous prestigious institutions and biennales.
