#American Artist - Mark Rothko

Mark Rothko immigrated to the United States as a child and later moved to New York. There, he joined the Art Students League and met some of the era's most well-known artists. Early in his career Rothko taught children which helped him to understand the power of simple visual images. Rothko's is best known for his Abstract Expressionist works. His large-scale paintings of radiant color, often featuring two to three richly painted rectangles, are instantly recognizable.
