惠东是一位诚实、能干、不断进取和充满热情的雕塑家和大学教授。因重大历史题材美术创作工程我们一起合作了三年有余，对他的创作活动、教学活动有了更多的直观了解。惠东是上世纪九十年代毕业于艺术名校鲁迅美术学院，他十几年来没有辜负学校的培养，作为承上启下的中坚力量，活跃在教学与创作的舞台上。

鲁迅美术学院有着优秀革命传统，并一向以严格基本功训练而著称。尤其鲁迅美术学院雕塑系，在全国美术界更是无人不知无人不晓。在国家各重大历史时期，鲁美雕塑系都是以饱满的政治热情和精湛的技艺为国家雕塑事业献力，创作出流芳百世的杰出作品。同时也为国家培养造就了一批批的雕塑家，惠东正是其中之一。

惠东这次展出的作品集中于近年来创作的人体雕塑。

人体雕塑一直是雕塑家关注的核心内容之一，也是一个永恒的话题。因为人体雕塑的发展史实际也是整个雕塑艺术的发展史，无论史前、远古、古埃及、古希腊、古罗马都有着大量再现人类自身的艺术作品，它与人类文明发展史同步，并逐步由对生命偶像崇拜转向纪念性和对于艺术审美的探求，在艺术创作中确立审美标准，而这一标准也影响到建筑、绘画、工艺等艺术门类。

人体雕塑一直是雕塑家艺术实践、艺术创作的方向，也是美术学院学生学习实践的重要课程。人体雕塑通过形体动作、空间造型，通过节奏、线条、形态起伏、转换质地等方法，通过追寻构图的基本法则以达到和谐统一的完美，更能达到诗一样的境界。

《温故·词》的系列作品让人感受到一股清新、明朗与激扬的气息，和对大自然造物纯朴的爱，展现了一颗热情而纯朴的心。正如惠东在展览自序中表述的，在人体创作中追求“词之美，荡气回肠，余音绕梁”，以强调“诗中有画，画中有诗”的中国传统艺术的审美意境。对于一个当代艺术家来说无疑这是最为宝贵之处。

人体是大自然最美好、最圣洁的造物，人体本身就是一首诗，淳一首优美、含蓄、寓意深邃的抒情诗，有情、有景、有意境，情景交融。伟大作家莎士比亚曾赞叹：“人是多么了不起的一件作品，宇宙之精华、万物之精灵！这是一首生命的赞歌，是对人体本质力量的体悟，是对人体美潜能的诗化。让我们去追求吧！”

Ode to Life

 

Hui Dong is an honest, capable sculptor and university professor, who is eager to make progress and is full of enthusiasm. We have cooperated for more than 3 years on account of artistic creation project on historical subject so I have learned more about his artistic activity and teaching practice. Hui Dong graduated from the famous college, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in the 1990s. For over 10 years, he does not fall short of college’s expectations. As a backbone element, he inherits the past and ushers in the future and he is always active on the stage of teaching and artistic creation.

With an outstanding revolutionary tradition, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts has been famous for her strict basic skill training. Especially, the department of sculpture is well known around the national artistic circles. In China’s different important historical periods, teachers in the department of sculpture devoted themselves to the cause of the national sculpture with full political enthusiasm and superb skills. They produced countless masterpieces which have won immortal fame. In the meanwhile, they have trained batches of sculptors as well and Hui Dong is just one of them.

The works on display mainly focus on Hui Dong’s sculptural arts of human bodies in recent years.

Sculpture of human bodies has been deeply concerned by sculptors and it is also an eternal artistic subject for the history of sculpture of human bodies is actually the history of sculptural arts, too. There appeared countless artistic works on sculpture of human bodies in different historical periods ranging from prehistory, remote antiquity, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece to ancient Rome. So the development of sculpture of human bodies keeps pace with that of human civilization, and it gradually shifted its aims from worship to image of life to commemorative nature as well as groping after artistic appreciation of the beauty. In the process of artistic creation, artists established aesthetic standards which also influenced architecture, painting, and industrial art etc.

Sculpture of human bodies has always been the theme of sculptors’ artistic practice and creation. It is also an important course for the college students in academy of fine arts. Sculptural arts of human bodies can not only achieve harmonious, unified perfection, but also reach poetic state by means of the ways of body movement, spatial modeling, rhythm, lines and transformation of quality as well as by means of basic law of composition of a picture.

The series of Hui Dong’s works entitled Wen Gu Ci make people feel the flavour of freshness, brightness and inspiration as well as the plain love for the creation of nature. It shows a warm, simple and honest heart. Just as what Hui Dong has said in his preface of the art exhibition, “in the course of my artistic creation of human bodies, I pursue the form of mood in which the beauty of words is inspiring and is like the music lingered in the air”. He is emphasizing the traditional Chinese artistic aesthetic artistic conception in which a poem evokes pictorial imagination and a painting evokes poetic imagination. There is no doubt, to a contemporary artist, that it is one of the most invaluable parts.

Human body is the most magnificent, holiest and purest works by nature. Human body itself is a poem, a graceful and implicit lyric with a profound message and there exists a blend of emotion, scenery and artistic conception in it. William Shakespeare, the greatest play writer, ever exclaimed, “What great artistic works humans are！They are the cream of the universe, souls of all things on earth！This is a paean of life, a thorough apprehension of physical nature of human bodies and a poetic reappearance of the potential beauty of human bodies. Let us pursue it！”.
