This first U.S. solo for the 34-year-old artist will feature paintings and monumental woodcuts exemplifying a mix of ennui and humor that critic Li Xianting has called Cynical Realism. A veteran of Tiananmen Square, Fang Lijun has previously had one-person shows at the Japan Foundation Asian Center in Tokyo (1996) and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (1998).
