索卡艺术荣幸地宣布将于2020年8月29日至10月3日举办《遗村歌》王挺宇个展，继上次在台南索卡举办的个展《星国舆图》已经过了四年时间，在此次的全新个展中，艺术家王挺宇跳脱了星座与地图间的单一轮廓，逐渐转变为地理製图的概念，并开始著重于图像之间的搭配，与延伸出来全新的意义。

Soka Art is proud to announce that we will hold a solo exhibition of "Verdiales of the Forsaken Hamlet" Wang Tingyu from August 26th to October 3rd. In this new solo exhibition, Wang Tingyu breaks away from the single outline between the constellation and the map, gradually transforms into the concept of geographic cartography, and begins to focus on the collocation between images and extend new meanings.

「地图」在艺术家王挺宇的创作中佔了举足轻重的地位，无论是星图、海图或是地图，都曾被多次运用在其作品中。此次的个展，艺术家想谈论的是电玩游戏中的虚拟地图，对其创作以及观赏角度的逻辑思维之影响。《遗村歌》主要是在个人、时间或者平面绘画上的另一个「支线任务」，平面绘画该有的历史任务，或是以游戏中的名词可以称为「主线任务」，在现今似乎已经获得最终审判，正如伴随著摄影术的发明而兴起的观念「绘画已死」。但是对王挺宇而言，绘画依然梳理著那些残存在世界角落的图像，依然做为一种活动的语言不断地思索与流动著。

'Map' plays an important role in the creation of artist Wang Tingyu. No matter it is 'Sky Map', 'Nautical Map' or 'Map', it has been used in his works for many times. In this solo exhibition, Wang Tingyu wants to talk about the influence of the virtual maps in video games on the logical thinking of their creation and viewing angles. 'Verdiales of the Forsaken Hamlet' is mainly a side quests on individual, the time and the graphic painting. The historical task of graphic painting, or can be referred to 'main task' in the video games, has now been finally judged. As with the invention of photography and the rise concept of "painting is dead". However, for Wang Tingyu, painting is still sorting out the images that remain in the corners of the world and constantly thinking and flowing as an active language.

王挺宇的创作仰赖大量地图像与符号，透过网络「以图搜图」，或是灵光一闪的图像逐渐推砌而成，如作品《比翼双飞》所参照的星座是双子座，图像中央拚贴著精美的古典瓷器与装饰品，这些瓷盘或是杯子，象徵著人们互相联络感情的对应关係，我们使用这些餐具来与他人一同宴饮，香气四溢，度过凡尘裡的美好时光。缕刻在餐具或杯具上的图案，有的是花朵或是小天使，像是只诞生在天堂裡的美妙景物。这些坚硬易碎的瓷器之间，由柔软的棉线牵引著，串联成一个，像庆贺的彩带，也像人与人之间的连绵不断的感情。杯子的手把像耳朵，也透过线材的联繫而收听著讯息，也幻化成翅膀，将整个世界变成一个飞翔的天堂。作品表面浮贴著缝纫用的彩色珠针，像是气球一样，对于飞翔的慾望是如此的坚定不移。也如同攀岩的岩钉一般固定著绳索，让观者透过线索来攀爬这座充满华美乐音的奥林帕斯山。

Wang Tingyu's creation relies on a large number of images and symbols, through the Internet "searching for pictures", or gradually pushed up by flashing images. For instance, the constellation referred to in the work 'Fly together' is Gemini, and the image is collaged in the center. With exquisite classical porcelain and decorations, these porcelain plates or cups symbolize the corresponding relationship between people's connection and feelings. We use these tableware to feast and drink with others. The fragrance is overflowing and we spend a good time in the world. The patterns engraved on the tableware or cups are some flowers or little angels, like wonderful scenery born only in heaven. These hard and fragile porcelains are pulled by a soft cotton thread and connected in series to form one, like a celebration ribbon, but also like a continuous feeling between people. The handle of the cup is like an ear, and it listens to messages through the connection of wires, and also turns into wings, turning the whole world into a flying paradise. The colorful beads used for sewing float on the surface of the work, like a balloon, and the desire to fly is so unwavering. The rope is also fixed like a rock stud, allowing viewers to climb the Olympus mountain full of gorgeous music through clues.

Wang Tingyu won the 2008 Taipei Award and the 2010 Kaohsiung Award first prize. He is also one of the most discussed artists in the art circle of Taiwan in recent years. The works on display continue the artist's exploration of mythological stories. The delicate and elegant style resembles a timeless poem. They are the products of fantasy and require the viewer's fantasy to be able to knock the door.
