色彩、造型和材料的质感

  一个人从远处走来,在我眼里只是一个小点,红的、黄的、蓝的、黑的、白的、灰的……这个小点是融于环境还是分外鲜明,就要取决于颜色的力量了。
  近些,便看出婀娜、魁梧……再近就见脸上棱角分明还是肉肉的一团,眉清目秀或爆眼圆环,手指纤细还是粗大有力,这全是造型的关系。
  待走到近前,与之鼻息可闻,或者人就是你的爱人、小孩,细细端详,举手抚颊,相拥之下,眼里尽是皮肤的光滑细致,这就是材料的质感。
  如此,以我眼睛识别的能力来看,依次是:色彩、造型和材料的质感。以与我心灵的默契来说,是:质感、色彩和造型。
  我看任何东西包括一幅画,也都是在这个视觉距离和心理距离之间,因此,我画画一般也遵从这个规律。

Color, Form and Texture
  When a person approaches from a distance, to my eyes they become just a small spot, maybe red, yellow, blue, black, white, gray…whether this spot stands out or forms a part of the environment is decided by the power of Color.
  As they come closer, one can tell whether they are slim or heavily built…even closer we can tell if their face is well defined or bulges with flesh, the eyes shapely or bulging, the fingers slender or thick and powerful.  These are what define Form. 
  When they stand in front of you, you can smell them.  Perhaps the person is your lover or child so you can examine them closely, touch their cheeks and enfold them in an embrace, so everywhere you look there is smooth skin.  This is the Texture.
  So, to my eyes, objects are identified first by color, then form and finally texture.  As for how well they match my feelings however, the order of precedence is texture, color then form.
  Whatever I look at exist in this difference between the visual and psychological distance and paintings are no exception.  When I paint, this is the law that I follow as well.
