中国最早的机制洋式银元为光绪年间的“光绪元宝”，俗称“龙洋”，因银元背面一般铸有龙纹而得名。因清代以来经历了多场战争，龙纹光绪元宝损失严重，至今，数量已经极其有限。龙纹光绪元宝，这种元宝非常独特，它所代表的不仅仅是金钱，还有光绪年间的经济情况。为此，众多收藏家都纷涌而至，以期能够找出这时期的龙纹光绪元宝，以满足对清代经济研究所需。

光绪三十一年，云南获得批准设立分厂，厂址于旧宝云局地址上，现今昆明市钱局街，机器设备由德国进口，技术工人从四川调入，祖模系向天津厂请领，于光绪三十三年八月铸币完工，开始铸造银币。初铸银币现俗称“老云南”，面值有七钱二分、三钱六分、一钱四分四厘。三个品种后铸背龙图无英文俗称“新云南”，面值有七钱二分、三钱六分、一钱四分四厘、七分二厘四个品种。

In August of Guangxu 33, the coinage was completed and silver coinage began to be minted. First-minted silver coins are now commonly known as "Old Yunnan". They are worth seven cents, three cents and six cents, and four cents and four cents. 云南省造光绪元宝距今已有一百多年的历史，光绪末年，云南省获准在昆明宝云局旧址设厂，招用四川技工并以德国进口机器按当时天津户部铸模造币。于光绪三十二年（1907年）建成云南银元局后又更名云南造币厂，生产“光绪元宝”钱币，有新旧两类版别，在当时市场流通信用非常好，民间使用认可度相当高。

此枚云南省造光绪元宝，正面珠圈内满汉文“光绪元宝”，圈外上环铸“云南省造”四字，下环铸币值“库平三钱六分”，左右各一园星。背面中心为蟠龙图，外环无其他纹饰。此枚云南省造光绪元宝，品相上乘，背面的神龙是全鳞图，其包浆入骨，熟旧自然，流通痕迹明显，具有相当高的收藏价值。银币经由时间的洗练，品相完好，实属不易。

东三省制造银元总局前身是始建于公元1896年(清光绪二十二年)的奉天机器局。公元1898年(光绪二十四年)，奉天机器局开始正式制造一元、五角、二角、一角和半角银币，并在市面上流通。沙俄侵占奉天(沈阳)时，机器局被焚毁。公元1902年(光绪二十八年)，经盛京将军增祺向俄方交涉，方将机器局交还奉天当局，后将机器局与造币厂分开，设立奉天制造银元总局，对残损机器重新修复，于1903年7月恢复生产，因当时局势动荡铸造量不大!现如今存世量极其稀少，犹如凤毛麟角!

When Russia invaded Fengtian (Shenyang), the Machinery Bureau was burned down. In 1902 (Guangxu 28), after General Zengqi of Shengjing negotiated with the Russian side, Fang handed over the Machinery Bureau to Fengtian authorities. After that, he separated the Machinery Bureau from the Mint and set up Fengtian Silver Yuan General Bureau to restore the damaged machines. Production resumed in July 1903, because the situation was turbulent and the amount of casting was very small. Today, the stock is extremely rare, just like a rarity in the world!

当今世上最为稀少的莫过于是“东三省造光绪元宝”、“云南省造光绪元宝”、“大清光绪奉天省造长须龙钱币”、“民国二十一年金本位币”、“圣宋通宝當伍”、“中外通宝壹两钱币”。其中“东三省造光绪元宝”已经数年没有出世，如今“东三省造光绪元宝”举世难寻出几枚，价值难以言喻。钱币的收藏价值是存世量、文化价值、铸造工艺来决定的。早早被人搜刮而去，目前古钱币基本上都藏于博物馆和个别大藏家手中。
