Zen and art in Chinese culture are incorporated in daily life. They correspond and they are natural. Liu’s art is inspired by nature and he’s interested in opportunities hidden in daily life. He combines modern art with act and writes down his only interpretation. That is very much Zen.
Art is the bed, representative and the call for faiths and beliefs. Liu uses his unique artwork to talk about the faith losing in the society today. Beauty of anachronism collection is his interpretation of people’s spiritual status. Life is flawed. Perfection is not necessary. Flaws are indicators of hopes and drive to make it better. Anachronism is all about imperfection, a concept that everyone knows, to inspire people to pay attention to imperfections and search for meanings and clues. Once people start to reflect on themselves, they have to possibility of finding a new life. Rebirth collection presents the power of religious redemption and saving the spiritual home so that people feel from the bottom of their hearts that they are safe and settled, free from fear, anxiety and thus become stronger. This is probably what Liu’s art means to today’s society.
Liu said that he is more like a traveler, lonely and deep. He is doing things in the society with a withdrawing heart. It’s the same for everyone who practices to reach that stage. Try to understand everything in your life first. Luckily, many of those people happen to be artists, they could put everything they feel on the journey into arts and show it to other people. I hope to see more work from Liu on Zen to re-walk his journey with his works.
