金棕榈奖获得者、泰国电影人阿彼察邦·维拉斯哈古荣获第8届Artes Mundi国际当代艺术奖。作为英国最重大的当代艺术奖项，始于2002年的Artes Mundi国际当代艺术奖每两年在威尔士的卡迪夫国家博物馆举办一次。作为五位提名艺术家之一的阿彼察邦最终荣膺该奖项，并将被授予四万英镑的奖金。

 

Awarding-winning artist and filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul from Thailand has won the Artes Mundi 8, the UK’s leading prize for international contemporary art. Since 2002 the Arte Mundi art prize has been held every two years at the National Museum Cardiff, Wales. Apichatpong has been chosen from a shortlist of five important artists to win the biggest art prize in the UK, and is awarded the prize of £40,000.

Apichatpong won the Artes Mundi prize for his film work Invisibility (2016). This featured film displays Apichatpong’s continued interest in the issue of perception and memory, and also mirrors the troubled state of Thailand’s politics. It proposes a decayed vision of the future where one needs to constantly evade reality. The viewing experience shifts between seeing and not-seeing, fact and fiction, space and void.

About the artist

 

阿彼察邦出生于曼谷，在泰国东北部孔敬长大。1994 年，他开始制作电影，并于 2000 年完成了他的第一部代表作。自1998年开始，阿彼察邦开始在世界各地展览他的装置。如今，已经是国际上最重要的视觉艺术家之一。阿彼察邦的作品常常带有丰富的抒情和神秘感，并与记忆交织，微妙地探究个人信仰和社会问题。

 

Born in Bangkok, Apichatpong grew up in Khon Kaen in north-eastern Thailand. He began making films and videoshorts in 1994 and completed his first feature in 2000. He has also mounted exhibitions and installations in many countries since 1998 and is now recognised as a major international visual artist. Lyrical and often fascinatingly mysterious, his film works are non-linear, dealing with memory and in subtle ways invoking personal politics and social issues.

作为一名泰国独立电影人，阿彼察邦在1999年成立了Kick the Machine Films，并致力于实验、独立电影制作。阿彼察邦代表了当代电影院中最原始的心声。他之前的六部电影代表作、短片以及装置项目在国际上被广泛认可并包揽了众多奖项，包括两次戛纳电影节的获奖。

Working independently of the Thai commercial film industry, he devotes himself into promoting experimental and independent film-making through his producing company Kick the Machine Films, founded in 1999, which also produces all his films. Apichatpong Weerasethakul is recognised as one of the most original voices in contemporary cinema. His previous six feature films, short films and installations have won him widespread international recognition and numerous awards, including two prizes from the Cannes Film Festival.
