OCAT Shanghai is pleased to present Dragon Liver Phoenix Brain – Eight Emerging Artistson December 10, 2016. Being part of the OCAT Shanghai annual young artists project, this exhibition will also be the last exhibition of the year and is organized by Mr. Colin Siyuan Chinnery, a curator long devoted to the research of contemporary Chinese art. The eight participating artists are Chen Zhe, Hu Xiangqian, Li Liao, Lin Ke, Lu Pingyuan, Nabuqi, Shen Xin and Yu Ji who work in video, photography, sculpture and performance. The isolation or proximity between artists' works shall be a major factor in this exhibition.

In the sci-fi world, the stargate was an ancient yet advanced alien technology, instantly transporting objects into the universe through a warped time and space of the wormhole. I open up an image of the starry night and use the light on the mouse to imitate the function of stargate, my computer was playing Japanese anime music, and my hard-drive has very little space left, sending me warnings.

This is what I’ve recorded with my mobile phone in a boring afternoon. At the time, I was watching the video of Peter Coffin’s Untitled (Sunshine) on Vimeo. There was a postcard of Tang Yin’s landscape painting on my computer desk. I used my iphone to photograph these two objects in front of me.
