我认识小杨要从他还是德国卡塞尔大学艺术学院学习时说起,当时我是学院的艺术史教授,在2001到2002年,我策划了名为“重庆辣椒”的展览,展览向德国观众介绍了四川艺术家的作品,小杨当时作为交换留学生在四川美术学院学习并成为我的策展助理,他向我推荐了许多四川美术学院的重要的艺术家。我和杨述(被邀请为卡塞尔大学艺术学院的客座教授)作为小杨的毕业导师都十分认可他在绘画上的天赋。

经过多年的努力,小杨找到了他自己的绘画方法:以一种迷人的方式为重庆普通人的日常生活画像。画面构图往往是以单个的人物为中心,有时会是一对情侣、男孩和女孩、老人、屠夫、棒棒或是孤独的老兵——这些人物形象主宰着画面同时又与其背景融为一体,这些背景也许是他们的小店、市场上的小摊,又或是在黄桷坪街道散步。

不过他的作品不仅仅是对人们日常生活的简单的记录或想象;环境与这些人物形象有着更深的精神链接。每幅作品都富有一种诗意的气质,这种气质存在于形体的边缘线、色彩和微妙的画面。一种柔和摆动着的音乐把形象和相互关联并具有光滑节奏的线条链接在一起,同时——经过多年的绘画实践积累——画面具有惊人地对于色彩节奏感受的把握。

早期的作品对于画面色彩更多的是一种深思熟虑之后的选择,到后来艺术家基于其内心深处对于其所描绘对象所具有的和谐与精妙的感受,试图使每件作品的色彩中达到一种相互平衡的感受,此时微妙描绘的画面遍不再允许任何更改。由此,他的作品本身试图变成这些迷人而有魅力的人们,在画布的表面流动。在他的新作品中有许多性感的女性形象,不过她们绝不是色情的,相反,应该说这种性感正是艺术家绘画方式的基础并与观众分享这种情绪。

I know Xiaoyang since the time when he studied at Kassel Art School, Germany, where I worked as a professor for Art History. In 2001/2, he was my co-curator for the exhibition “Chilies from Chongqing”, that introduced a German public to the achievements of Sichuan artists, and Xiaoyang recommended me the most important artists at SFCA wherehe then studied. He passed his exam in Kassel with Yang Shu as guest professor and me, and we both were convinced of his great talent as painter.
Over the years, Xiaoyang developed his personal method of oil painting, and a charming way to portray the life of Chongqing people. His compositions are centered around single persons, sometimes a couple or two, boys or girls, old men or ladies, butchers, bangbangs, or solitary old soldiers - dominating the painted surface and finely embedded in their surroundings, be it their shop, their market place, or on astroll at Huang Jue Ping. Yet his paintings are not mere documentations or illustrations of the life of everyday people; the places are related to them like a mind surrounding. Thus, every canvas gets a poetic sense, based on the outlines of forms, the colors and the subtle paint of surfaces. A soft swinging music gathers the forms, a smooth rhythm of interacting outlines, and – with the years of the painterly achievement – an astonishing sense for the melody offine hues. While in the early paintings the choice of colors follows adeliberate way, with time the artist gets a feeling for the mutual balance of colors in every work, a marvelous evidence of their harmony and subtlety, while the subtle paint on the surfaces allows no corrections, depends from his deepinner feeling of its harmony.
Thus, his paintings argue to become aware of the charming, inviting soul of these peoples, streaming over the who lesurface. There are many erotic ladies in his newer work, but there is never pornography. On the contrary, it seems as if the erotic feeling is the basisfor his mode how to paint, sharing this mood with the beholder.

一见钟情

当我第一次到重庆时一个朋友到机场接我,在从机场到新家的路上,我坐在车里象个三岁的小孩,鼻子紧贴着车窗看着外面的一切,在短短几分钟内我对中国所有的概念都被推翻了,我不得不承认只住一年实在太短了。
从那一刻到现在已经十几年了,但是我的鼻子仍然贴在窗户上。在这里的每一天都对我的创造力进行着考验,哪怕我只是想吃一碗面都需要想方设法使别人明白我到底想要什么面。在德国如果发生交通意外多半是因为一个十年前就立在路口的路标发生了变化而没有人意识到;而中国的城市每时每刻都在发生巨大的变化,一分钟之后未来已经变成了过去。
在中国我学会了随时睁开眼睛观看,作为一个旁观者我找到了很多故事作为我绘画的题材,这使我能更好地理解这座城市和城市中的人。

Love at first glance

Just after I arrived the first time in Chongqing a friend picked me up from the airport to bring me to my new home. I was sitting like a 3 year old boy in the car and pressing my nose against the window. We only were driving for a few minutes and I already was overturned. I had to confess to my self that 1 year will be to short.
It’s more than 10 years ago now but my noseit’s still sticking to the window. Here I have to prove my creativity everyday even when I only want to eat some noodles to make sure that I get what I want.The changes are so fast that the future is already past. In Germany we have traffic accidents because a road sign is maybe changed after 10 years.Everybody expects the old one nobody is thinking still it crashed.
Here in China I learned to keep my eyes open. As an observer I find the stories for my paintings to understand the people.
