亲爱的观众朋友:
在参与、呈现、分享“部屋物语”的过程中,上海外滩美术馆很受触动。这是年轻艺术家郑亦然发起的一项长期艺术项目。该项目在全球范围内公开征集个人文字创作,以建立一个档案库,为疫情期间的个人生活故事留下视觉物料。
当全球处于疫情的阴影之下,郑亦然这件作品展现了一种细腻而富有亲密感的艺术参与方式。
与传统艺术展览不同,“部屋物语”所呈现的首先是“人”:在上海外滩美术馆闭馆翻新之际,在为期数周的展期内,参与者通过写信的方式在美术馆里“栖居”。其次,项目也凝聚着上海外滩美术馆团队的投入,我们将保管这些档案,并且在今后数月间持续收集新的故事。最后,项目也是关于个人对档案的激活,人们进入到美术馆中,与这些文本建立起特殊的联系,静下心来阅读,并在阅读中感受艺术家的创作以及空间本身的物理性。
所谓“存在”,需要超越传统的展示和观看方式。
所谓“存在”,即以不同的、但却同样真诚、细腻、开放而多元的声音来实现“在一起”。
“部屋物语”首展于日本,此后将陆续前往中国大陆、中国香港、哈萨克斯坦、埃塞俄比亚等国家和地区。在因疫情各国纷纷下达禁令的当下,人际交流与旅行变得困难,郑亦然的艺术行为致力于让这些声音和故事能够跨越地域、时间和环境的差异实现交流和连接。

Dear Friends:
Rockbund Art Museum is sincerely touched to engage with , host and to share Stories from the Room, a long term project by the female artist Jasphy Zheng, who openly calls individuals from different parts of the world, in order to archive and visually materialize individual stories and share life experiences during the pandemic.
In the context of Rockbund Art Museum’s prolonged closure due first to planned renovation and then with the impact caused by the pandemic, the beauty of Jasphy Zheng’s art project has unfolded into a subtle and intimate way of engaging with art during these times.
Indeed Stories from the Room is not a conventional exhibition, but is about the subtle presence of individuals, who by writing these letters, will in a way “inhabit” the closed Museum for a few weeks. It is also about the engagement of the Rockbund Art Museum team, who will not only maintain the archive, but also collect new stories in the duration it occupies our building. Finally, it is about the activation of the archive by individuals, who join the Museum to have a very singular relationship to the collection of texts, taking time to read, but to also experience the artist’s proposition to simply explore the archive in relation to the physicality of the museum’s space.
Presence requires more than conventional display and looking.
Presence is about « to be with… » in relationship to sincere, subtle, open and multiple voices.
Last but not least, if Stories from the Room started in Japan, Jasphy Zheng art project will extend to different locations and time zones such as China, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia… In an exceptional context of lockdowns caused by the global pandemic and the impossibility for people to travel and connect normally to/with one another, the artistic act of Jasphy Zheng is also to make it possible for these voices and stories to traverse and unify multiple locations, temporalities and situations, simultaneously together.
