在第一届 2006台北当代水墨双年展「时尚水墨」引起广泛的共鸣之后,为接续其成效与精神,第二届 2008台北当代水墨双年展,拟以「科技水墨 ~纵横东西」为主题。今日,科技的影响,无所不在,科技固然为人类带来巨大的效能与便利,但也伴随着很多问题与负面效应。当然,水墨艺术亦深受其冲击与挑战。如何因应、调适与突破,已是水墨艺术必须面对的严肃课题。「科技水墨」试图探讨科技对自然生态和人文社会的影响,及其相互间的「关系」。

 

「水墨艺术」的悠久历史传统,以及在台湾的多元发展,已成为华人艺术的重要资产。艺术的新陈代谢,是建立在尊重传统、呼应当代的基础上。艺术的转型需要能量,「科技」产业为艺术提供了一个新的方向。「科技」的技术与产品研发能力;并且提供影像创新的灵感,开发出更能带给现代观众震撼与感动的视觉感受;甚至透过技术的引进,改变水墨艺术的创作方式与媒材,带来本质上的改变。

 

「科技」领域在台湾的产业界,扮演举足轻重的重要性,是台湾迈向国际化的重要力量。产业竞争力的提升,除了技术的改良,更需要品牌的建立与形象的塑造。以「水墨艺术」诠释产品,让品牌与形象具备更丰富的人文内涵,让产品不单单只是满足现代人的物质需求,更满足精神的需求。透过结合当代科技的技术与产品,让「水墨艺术」的东方气质与媒材韵味,转化为诠释手机、电玩等数字产品的影像,为科技产业的提升带来新的契机。

 

以「科技水墨 ~纵横东西」作为策展主题,纵横乃时间与空间的延伸与延续;前者象征历史的回顾与前瞻性的展望。后者则意味不可忽视与避免的全球化现实。东西则意谓自十九世纪以来的纠结与其至今不断影响吾辈思维的现象。本展应该具有囊括各式各样水墨发展脉络之胸襟,对水墨作历史行的回顾,呈现当今发展的多元与复数元面向,及寻求其与当今全球文化、艺术推展的定位点。以扩延传统水墨策展的认知,在笔墨纸砚之中汇入了所谓的水墨文化的革新,在当代的环境中水墨它不该只是纸幅之间的意念产出;它可以如「第一届时尚水墨」中的纸艺术水墨行为,或水墨与流行文化、水墨装置的观念表达;如今我们源于数字媒体的发达加入了科技的成份,试图为台湾艺术界与科技产业界建立起沟通的桥梁,为跨领域的革新所作的努力。是故,本次展览共分五个单元展出:1当代水墨、2水墨文学、3水墨数字录像、4水墨设计、5水墨新秀。这项尝试,将是科技与艺术的双赢;也是水墨文化当代思潮中不可或缺的一块拼图。

As the First Taipei Modern Ink Painting Biennial “Modern Ink Painting” Exhibition in 2006 received great appreciation, the Second Taipei Modern Ink Painting Biennial named “Technology Ink Painting –Crossing East and West” will be held in 2008 to extend the achievement and spirit of its previous exhibition. Technology is everywhere now, but there are still many problems and side effects despite of its great ef.ciency and convenience. Needless to say, ink painting is deeply in.uenced and challenged. It is then a serious task for ink painting to adjust itself and overcome the challenges. Technology ink painting is then an attempt to explore how has technology in.uenced natural environment and culture as well as their mutual relationships.

 

Ink painting has a long history and a diverse development. It has become an essential property in Chinese art. The transforming of art, based on the reverence to tradition and the resonance to contemporary, needs energy, and technology industry provides a whole new orientation. The skills and product R&D of technology lead art to a more pro.table industry. Besides, technology offers inspiration for image innovation, developing a more shocking and touching visual experience. Moreover, the use of technology changes the way and media of ink painting creation, which also changes the nature of ink painting.

 

Technology plays a very significant role among Taiwan’s industries. It is a force that propelled Taiwan to stand out internationally. In order to increase industry competitiveness, the improvement of skills and establishment of brand and image are equally important. Using ink painting to interpret products makes the brand and image even more cultivated. As a result, products not only satisfy people’s needs for material, but also satiate their spiritual needs. When technology’s skills and products are integrated, the oriental quality and charm of ink paintings are then transformed into images that interpret cell phones and video games, and the change brings new possibilities for the industry.

 

The name of this exhibition “Technology Ink Painting –Crossing East and West” has an extraordinary meaning: “Crossing” means the extension and expansion of time and space. The former symbolizes the retrospect of history and expectation for the future. The latter means the inevitability of globalization. “East and West” means the phenomenon in the 19th century when thoughts were not concordant about art and the impact that still in.uences how people think now. This exhibition should contain various ink painting sects and present a diverse directions of development for the present day. It should also seek for the .xed position of global culture and art promotion. In order to spread the recognition of traditional ink painting, some innovation in ink painting culture are generated. In the contemporary environment, ink painting should not con.ne itself as merely an output of paper and thoughts. Instead, it can be expressed in the ways in the First Modern Ink Painting Exhibition which showed paper art ink painting behavior, ink painting versus pop culture, and ink painting device art. Now we add in technology and try to build a communication bridge for Taiwan’s art and technology industries. Therefore, this exhibition is mainly divided into .ve major parts: 1. contemporary ink painting 2. ink painting literature 3. ink painting digital images 4. ink painting design 5. ink painting new talents. This attempt would create a win-win situation for both technology and art. It will be an indispensable part of the jigsaw puzzle for the ink painting contemporary stream.
