Brief Introduction of Golden Age

 

海派国画，因其雅俗共赏而影响深远，深受赞誉。当代海派大师、重彩画家李守白，更是把中国工笔的神韵意境，结合西画的透视和光感，中西交融、工笔相间，形成了鲜明的个人风格，取得了显著的艺术成就。

Haipai (Shanghai School) Painting is very popular and appeals to the people from all culture and background. Li Shoubai(李守白), the Chinese contemporary Haipai artist and heavy-color painter, blends the spirit and mood in Chinese Meticulous Painting with perspective and lighting technique in Western painting. He made his name because of the innovative and unique artworks.

 

本作品《花样年华》，便是海派艺术与岭南民间艺术的碰撞和交融，是李守白与潘柏林两位不同领域的艺术大师的跨界合作，别开生面，意义非凡。

Golden Age is a crossover artwork from Li Shoubai and Pan Bolin, the prominent artists of Haipai cultureand Ling Nan art. It is a harmonious blend of two styles, which is innovative andmeaningful.  

 

陶塑与绘画不同之处有三：

• 绘画是平面，而陶塑是立体——必须360度完美呈现作品。
• 绘画有背景布局、远近、光影等变化运用，陶塑则多是表现主体，无从呈现整个场面的所有“布景搭配”；
• 陶塑设色、烧制工艺环节更多，窑火变化莫测，结果难以控制。

 There are three major differences between figurine and painting:

1.      Painting is on two dimensions, while the pottery figurine Is three dimensions — it has to present the details of the artwork at every angle.

2.      Painting could use composition, placement, distance and lighting to contrast, but it is difficult for potters top resent the setting of the figurine. The focus most likely falls onto the subject.

3.      The coloring and kiln firing process of pottery is more complicated than painting. And the result is unpredictable because of the changeable fire.

 

此件作品不但完美解决上述三个问题，通过陶塑展现画意，更赋予其生动气息，取得相得益彰的效果。

Li and Pan not only perfectly solved the above problems, but also transmitted their energy and spirit to the artwork. It is expressive, lively and lifelike.   

 

作品构图简洁而稳重，上海女人半坐半倚，神态悠闲舒适。身材高挑苗条匀称，九头身的比例夸张而不失实，感官舒服。白胎泥呈现出中国女性肤色特有的温润、细腻，所谓“肌肤胜雪、吹弹可破、指如春葱”，我见犹怜。面相刻画，看似寥寥，却螓首蛾眉，巧笑倩兮，美目眇兮。人物塑造得既有古典美，又有现代美，既有雕塑味，又有泥巴味。衣纹整体简洁，却不失线条美，以布的质感勾勒上海女人的身材，惹人遐想。

Composition of the artwork is simple and stable. The Shanghai woman is sitting and leaning leisurely and comfortably. Tall and slender, the body proportions are exaggerated but looking naturally. The use of white clay shows the skin characteristics of the Chinese women - moist, delicate and very translucent. It seems that the face features are simple but the eyebrows, smile, eyes are very expressive. It is a perfect combination of classic and modern beauty. The close-fitted dress is concise, but without losing the beauty of lines. The cloth texture outlines the Shanghai woman's body.

 

设色方面，以褐色为基，绿白衬托，突出头饰的红，展现海派风格的同时，又凸显石湾釉色的魅力：流动、变化，淡雅斯文，烘托出人物的气质。

In regards to coloring, with the base of earth tone ,green and white accent, the red in the hair piece stands out, which shows the Haipai style in the meanwhile, also highlights the charm of ShiWan glaze - flow, change, elegance.

 

传神之处在于其神韵，虽无画图内种种物事的“搭配”，却画意延展。人物目光幽远，似春日闲憩，似夏时纳凉，似揽猫相戏，似眺望鸿雁，似憧憬美梦，似独处怀春……千人或许有千种解读，这件陶塑却能够令观者一眼入迷，细品良久。而即便是从侧面、背面望去，倩影纤纤，亦堪细赏。

Although without the setting in paintings, the mood of the painting gets extended. The eyes are very profound that it feels like spring leisure recreation; like cool air in the summer time; like embrace the cat to play; like overlooking the swan goose; like daydreaming alone… Thousands of people may have thousands of interpretation. This artwork fascinates each viewer at the first glance and impresses for a long time. Even viewing from the sides, or the back, you don’t want to move your eyes away.
