Love infinity - Langlands & Bell
Ben Langlands & Nikki Bell made their studio in an old building in East London with a rich history. In the late 19th century a woman was murdered there and her body was hidden under the floorboards. The remains of the Elephant Man are around the corner in the London Hospital, and just across the way is the doss house where George Orwell stayed when writing Down and Out In Paris and London. Langlands & Bell have made a lifelong study of this kind of resonant space - what a manmade space, image or device says about the people that built or inhabit it. It is hard to say whether Langlands & Bell are architects, archiologists, historians or philosophers. Certainly they are artists. Together they create very interesting narratives, combining each other's meanings and different angles and attitudes to making a conversation full of charm and detail, going back to the origin of architecture. There are so many ways to see it but from Langlands & Bell we find what space, human spirit and body deeply mean to people from the beginning of a concept to its final execution as a building or space. I am very impressed by their world where design and art coexist well together.
