最近我在哲学家雅克·德里达（Jacques Derrida）的一本书中发现了一种有趣的法语表达方式：“介于狗和狼之间的那段时间”。它描述的是我们称之为“黎明”或者“黄昏”的那段时间。在那段时间里，光线是如此的微弱，你甚至不能区分那是一条狗还是一只狼。这让我想到了过去，当时间与日光还有着紧密的联系、而每个地方都有它自己的时间的时候；当日内瓦的“Tour de l’?le”有三个显示着三个不同时刻的钟表的时候：日内瓦时间，巴黎时间，伯尔尼时间。在19世纪末，列车时刻表必须终结这种时间上的差异。从那时开始就有了“时区”的概念，而大概在同一时间的电灯的发明让人类的活动开始独立于太阳。

一直以来我都着迷于电灯的历史，今年夏天，我终于有机会去参观这个世界上寿命最长的电灯泡。我去到了美国加州的利弗莫尔，并且得到了这座城市的消防站的许可，那只从1901年开始就一直工作到现在的灯泡正是位于该消防站内。我站在发出微弱光亮的灯泡下，和其中的一名消防队员聊起了天。他就像是一位守护者一样，灯泡的守护者。突然我感觉自己像是站在一个能量漩涡的下方，就好像它是一种神秘的力量之源。这个灯泡似乎对抗着时间和衰弱。它会永远亮下去吗？而此时此刻全世界又有多少人正通过安装在它旁边的“灯泡监控”传回的直播照片注视着它？

……

我突然在想，“介于狗和狼之间的那段时间”所描述的是否不仅仅是光线的等级。它似乎也描述了人们所熟悉的、令他们感到舒适的事物与未知的、危险的事物之间的界限。这是一种介于希望和恐惧之间的不确定的临界状态——当狗回到家时，狼也跟着出现了。
